BT is a tool. Rarely says something good about Collingwood. Maybe because we snub his stupid antics as Roaming Brian
Doesn’t BT still host the Copeland and other big events during the year?

He is fine, but yes funnily enough the club is professional enough to put our own post game plan ahead of his segment...makes for funny viewing when he doesn’t get the access he is used to.

Gotta say, that was simply one of the all time great Collingwood victories. For all the media bash up over the past few weeks, for all the injuries that keep coming our way. To go on the road against the side we lost the granny to so heartbreakingly last year & to be able to pull that off? Simply incredible. That was more than a win!!!

But about the commentary on 7... is it just me, or has BT lost the plot?
I thought BT was the only one with his head screwed on. Berated the other commentators for liking a 40m kick 10m from the boundary as "just like the Grand Final" and calling the game with Collingwood only down by 16.

I think even if Cox is too much of a target long I think it's not part of our gameplan when things are going right. He can get to contests that others can't so when a pressured kick into the forward line from the wing-flank goes forward he might get a finger to it and the stat for target inside 50 is shown as him being the intended target. When our ball movement is freer our targets are our smalls, De Goey, Stephenson are our 2 main full forwards. That doesn't mean he isn't an asset as the target of the old cliche "get out of jail" kick . However even "get out of jail" kicks have degrees of effectiveness, the long kick around the shoulder to no one in particular is bad. The long kick when ball movement is slow to Cox's spot where 2 guys have to go up at the contest to defend him directly is a good "get out of jail" kick, one of the best in the competition.

The issue with Cox against Hawthorn was:
1. The kicks to him were either open play kick in hope kicks or they were slow kicks from behind the halfway mark.
2. The small forwards did not position themself close enough to Cox to take advantage of the 2 on 1 conundrum he creates in the air. They were too wound up in becoming an option themselves because of the frustratingly stunted and haphazard ball movement from up the ground, leaving Cox to try and create a contest against 2 intercepting players alone when the kick isn't favouring him. By allowing #2, we allowed kicks described in #1 to become the norm, kicks that just drop in Hawthorns zone grid.

This year we have used dump balls far too often, the players even stop momentum to look for it.

Dump kicks or get out of jail kicks are fine if done on occasion not regularly as we do.

Also deep fwd dumping repetitively to him is dumb footy had we lowered our eyes and picked out other options we would of won by 6 goals rather then dancing on a knives edge that WC could of went end to end and won it.

Long term this needs addressing.

If your argument re Coxs effectiveness is based around contest creation I don't buy it every kpf can create a regular contest and many of them can create a link for def to fwd transition. Don't have to be 211cm to do it. Hawks game wasn't an outlier for Cox either not sure why use it as if it is.

He improved mainly through us using him deeper which I think suits him better and through better system/ kicks as well as diversity of option kicked to in the f50 spreading wc defenders which then allowed for mason to get some space (with smart blocks).
Second half we became too focussed on getting it to Cox it became easier to defend him and us.

Well played last night, wanted it far more than my mob, current rivalry between us is reminding me of our Sydney games back in 05 and 06.

The finals rivalry actually goes back to 1990.

I think the biggest winning margin in a final between the two side is like 20 points in 2011 (I mean, excluding the 1990 Replay final).

I like WHE at half back. Give him a job. Too often as a forward he goes missing. His pace, skill and size can make him a weapon rebounding from D50.

I kind of agree.

As long as he's on an opponent more appropriately sized, I think he could turn into a decent defender.

Could actually be a decent match up for Finlayson

This club does my head in.
Play crap against The Hawks and North then put on field what seems like our weakest side in ages.
Lose More early in the game, and of the 21 players left about 6 have very little to no impact.
Yet....
They beat the reigning premiers on their home turf.

This club does my head in.
Supporting Collingwood is one long roller coaster ride!

I need to watch it again Dave. DeGoey massive. But I thought Crisp’s pressure work around the ball prevented the inevitable Eagles slingshot goal or two that we have been conceding plenty of times on the past few weeks.

The were quite a few players in that last quarter that just willed us over the line - just magnificent

A word for Crocker. He tried his heart out. He didnt give up. In a peculiar way, i almost identify with him because I dont have the talent to play AFL footy but if for some strange reason i was a gifted a spot on the list i hope I would apply myself as diligently as he has. He will probably get delisted at the end of this year but at least he can say to himself that he gave it his best shot. For that reason, i dont abuse him or ridicule him. His deficiencies were on display last night and it doesnt take an expert to tell the world about them. His teammates still gave him a hug at the end even though they were the ones who had to live with his mistakes. If they can do that, I wont sinking the boot in.

Hey, I love my girlfriend and she took me to the game last night because she’s an Eagles member. She’s still not talking to me this morning and I got the cold shoulder all night in bed. I just don’t care because I know what true love is. GO THE PIES.
She’s just preparing you for marriage- that’s all it is :D

Good to see the closet Carlton supporters back where they belong and everyone back on the bandwagon.

I thought it was a step in the right direction, but still not our best footy. Too many passengers and particularly in the first half. Soft efforts from pendles and Phillips were not good signs early. The most impressive part is we got back to our brand when it counted most in the second half. Mihocek was outstanding. Cox is just dropping too many marks for my liking. I’d like to see him in the 2’s.

Crocker is a good vfl player. I thought Greenwood was exceptional tonight. Aish was great aside from some skill errors of which there were plenty across the board, so I won’t judge too harshly. WHE and Mayne played their role. We need to get a lift from Sier and Elliot, they were down for quality players.

Degoey was a match winner again. Brown was handy and loves to break a game open.

I though noble and iq were poor, and largely because their small forwards tore us to shreds.

Just some random unstructured thoughts from me.

What, real supporters have to be stupid?

Nothing wrong with being realistic, and after the last two weeks, thinking we'll lose was fair enough.
It may be more than just predicting a loss. Some of the calls on the gameday threads are ridiculous and give no insight into the state of play if you can't see the game. When those calls are used to predict a result, you start to get a feel for what JC is talking about. Sitting in the Ponsford stand years ago, we were surrounded by overly negative supporters who whipped the shit out of players, coaches etc. You'd scratch your head at how some plays were perceived.
E.gs
Last Night: Sier going for the ball, collects Grundy and it's Sier's fault. Aish leaps to spoil, lands awkwardly so Aish is dumb.
In the past: Patterson runs in a straight line to a ground ball facing the goals. He has right of way (back in those days). Rocca collects him going the other way. Patterson is abused and told to get out of Rocca's way.
Those supporters are very real.

Where are adz and travisss and thatsgold tonight?

Where are their posts of joy?

Well said mate. That trio having their weeties this morning utterly devastated that Collingwood won and utterly devastated that our great club continues to make their stupid drunken ramblings embarrassing .
