I like WHE at half back. Give him a job. Too often as a forward he goes missing. His pace, skill and size can make him a weapon rebounding from D50.
Good call, I thought WTF when WHE started playing off HB after Moore went off, he just needs to get a little bit of mongrel in him, maybe just hang around a bloke called Levi! This guy has rein invented himself, loving his work off HB.

A word for Crocker. He tried his heart out. He didnt give up. In a peculiar way, i almost identify with him because I dont have the talent to play AFL footy but if for some strange reason i was a gifted a spot on the list i hope I would apply myself as diligently as he has. He will probably get delisted at the end of this year but at least he can say to himself that he gave it his best shot. For that reason, i dont abuse him or ridicule him. His deficiencies were on display last night and it doesnt take an expert to tell the world about them. His teammates still gave him a hug at the end even though they were the ones who had to live with his mistakes. If they can do that, I wont sinking the boot in.
As someone else pointed out he was unlucky a few times and his confidence dropped after that, still kept at though so that's a tick, I hate seeing players dropped after one game but if Howe/Berg and Adam's come back I don't think we have any choice.

Good to see the closet Carlton supporters back where they belong and everyone back on the bandwagon.

I thought it was a step in the right direction, but still not our best footy. Too many passengers and particularly in the first half. Soft efforts from pendles and Phillips were not good signs early. The most impressive part is we got back to our brand when it counted most in the second half. Mihocek was outstanding. Cox is just dropping too many marks for my liking. I’d like to see him in the 2’s.

Crocker is a good vfl player. I thought Greenwood was exceptional tonight. Aish was great aside from some skill errors of which there were plenty across the board, so I won’t judge too harshly. WHE and Mayne played their role. We need to get a lift from Sier and Elliot, they were down for quality players.

Degoey was a match winner again. Brown was handy and loves to break a game open.

I though noble and iq were poor, and largely because their small forwards tore us to shreds.

Just some random unstructured thoughts from me.
Cox plays good best game of the year kicking 3 and not being out marked at all against possibly the best tall defense in the league and you want him in the seconds? WTF!?

Sier wasn’t as bad as people were saying. Watching the replay he had some important handballs. He’s one you’re not going to notice all the time and he’s still so raw but I thought he did his job last night.
He didn't do much, but his handballing is the cleanest in the team. That first half we were very sloppy by hand, Crisp particularly so. It was our strength last year, but WCE tap ons were more accurate than our handballs. Need to drill drill drill before September and rediscover our handball game. If we can get to last year's level of handballing and are brave enough to take the game on, we will win the cup.

We just need to keep playing him. Dropping him ( as posters are suggesting in Rnd 18 changes thread) is ridiculous. He is in that group of players whom need to keep playing and the continuity will come.

I really expected a loss and was bracing for a bad one. How much more joyous can it be?
For most of the game, Collingwood's kicking and handball were poor by comparison with the ultra slick and confident passing of West Coast. The bounce of the ball was all their way, the umpiring errors went their way and their confidence was at near arrogance levels. And yet we were still in it.
From halfway through the third quarter, a few breaks went our way at last, and the pressure in the midfield escalated. The effect of the coaches' tactical moves started to pay dividends and only inaccuracy prevented a sizeable win.
The new half backs seem up to it, Crisp back to the midfield was great and shutting down Hurn worked a treat. If this is not a flash in the pan, and confidence in one another shows up as more accurate passing and braver leads, then the year is now on track. That is a big call from one game, and the next two weeks will show where we really are.

Agreed. Unlike others who are in and out of the team, we know The Bear can play, and properly influence games.

He quietened Cameron after he went down on him.

Haven't had time to go through all the posts but after Moore went down the job Maynard did on darling was nothing short of sensational whilst providing rebound off half back. For me he was the best player on the ground.

agree, Maynard was brilliant

It may be more than just predicting a loss. Some of the calls on the gameday threads are ridiculous and give no insight into the state of play if you can't see the game. When those calls are used to predict a result, you start to get a feel for what JC is talking about. Sitting in the Ponsford stand years ago, we were surrounded by overly negative supporters who whipped the s**t out of players, coaches etc. You'd scratch your head at how some plays were perceived.
E.gs
Last Night: Sier going for the ball, collects Grundy and it's Sier's fault. Aish leaps to spoil, lands awkwardly so Aish is dumb.
In the past: Patterson runs in a straight line to a ground ball facing the goals. He has right of way (back in those days). Rocca collects him going the other way. Patterson is abused and told to get out of Rocca's way.
Those supporters are very real.

This. We were down by only a few points at quarter time, but reading the match day thread we might as well have been 10 goals down.

There's no debating it, the ratio of positive to negative during the first half was 1:10.

Maynard was great. He just has to cut out those occasional silly brain farts. Comms reckon Cameron was opposed to Noble later in the game but it's hard to pick some of the match-ups from the tv, especially when our defensive area is sometimes crowded.

I really think we got a bit lucky with McGovern being a bit hampered and maybe Kennedy will not be the same force which means we can get away with playing one tall against them which would be Roughie. We could then use Howe on someone like Darling or Allen. Not sure if Langers will return. Not sure if we can risk Moore in a final.
