I'm thinking the club might not want Mellington.. you would think the Freo would have trade to swap him for Gumby instead of pick 55 if they just intended to dump him anyway...

Also we will have to decide if we are dumping Jetta or delisted Pears if we want to take any more players DFA..
If the club were to hypothetically delist both, would you take Mellington as the Jetta replacement and Laidler as the Pears replacement?

We also need to take three draft picks and wanted to keep Pears so Mellington via trade would have been stupid

Which is exactly what I was saying.. hence why the club wouldn't have wanted Mellington.. so glad we agree.

I was suggesting we wouldn't pick him up via DFA.. if he is in the draft then maybe we pick him up with 55.. but it would be unlikely he gets through that far imho.

Well I would be re-sign Pears ahead of both player personally. If the cut Jetta (pay out his contract) then I would see Weller as a preference over Mellington and Laidler...

You seem to think that tradind/drafting/contracting is playing a fantasy board game.

No I don't but Pears is yet to display consistent form at the top level, Laidler was one of Carton's better defenders in the 2012 season, and Jetta is rubbish anyway so not like we'd lose anything taking Mellington or Weller over him.

2011 was Laidler's good season.

I'm surprised he isn't still at Carlton, but by the same token, the guy has played five games in the past two years.

There's no way you could realistically rate him ahead of Pears at present.

Don't you remember Pears 2nd year when he came 2nd in the rising star? He played consistant footy before the injuries. He'll get back there. (Has to play as the third defender).

I seem to remember reading this before as well, but it could legitimately be that I read this page of the thread earlier in the day.

Still sounds familiar though.
Nah I don't think you need to use draft picks on category B rookies, could be wrong though
Did a bit of a search, Blicavs went in the rookie draft, even though he was Pre-selected. I assume the same will happen with Johnny.

Does Jed Clothier qualify to go on the rookie B list as per the below rules?

ACADEMY PLAYERS – ROOKIE PRE-SELECTION
Like father-son players, under the previous AFL rules, Academy players were subject to a bidding system before the National Draft if they were nominated by an eligible club but could not be pre-selected by that club before the Rookie Draft.
Clubs with Academy programs – the Brisbane Lions, Gold Coast Suns, Sydney Swans and GWS Giants – should have the chance to pre-select local talent from the pool of players in their Academy between the Pre-Season and Rookie Drafts if those players nominated for but were not selected at the most recent National or Pre-Season Drafts.
The amendment is designed to create incentives for Academy clubs to develop talent by providing opportunities for them to rookie list players for further development.
Only draft-eligible club Academy players who were nominated by their club at the designated time and played in the National Championships are eligible to be pre-selected as a Category B rookie.

Agree - Certain that he will take any opportunity - Was reporting back from a Ledger radio interview - Did he ask to be traded or delisted ?

Delisted as he thought it would give him more options and be better for him.

He basically read writing on wall and that he wouldn't actually get 1 year contract that Watters said he might get after trade week.

Does anyone have any info on whether or not the club might take Clothier and/or Forrester as category B rookies?

I'm led to believe the deadline was with the list lodgement earlier today.

EDIT: Ah there you have it, Eth already confirmed it :thumbsu:

My dream:
Pick 26: Matt Crouch
Pick 60ish: Aaron Heppell
Pick whateverish: Dylan Garlett

Aaron to win rising star like his bro.

All this Garlett talk is silliness. After what happened last time we had him down at the club (went home to get fingered with his mates in Perth for the weekend) and the reports from anyone who seems involved saying he hasn't changed his habits, there is NO chance we'll pick him up at any stage in the draft.

As for Laidler, he did have one good season and as much as i think Pears has been very average of late, that hypothetical swap would gain us nothing. Seeing as how Davey is gone, its 1 more season for Tayte to see what he can give as a 3rd tall.

As much of a spud as Jetta is paying him out is a waste of money and a bad look.

And you continue to play a fantasy game.
