Regardless of how serious Cripps was with those comments, I wouldn't bank on the go home factor working in our favour anyway. With the way our list is beginning to look, I'm not convinced that we'll be seen as a destination club over the coming few years.

Mate I heard it live and it was in jest to what SOS had said earlier. They were all on a panel.

Nothing to see here.

Maybe people would prefer if he was more humble ... oh wait ;)

Especially considering the fact we just lost two South Australians

If we end up with Lycett, Burton and Mayes I'll actually be pretty happy with the ins this trade period. Not at all happy about the outs though.

I have hope but Im tempering my expectations on ''ex SA mid 20s guys like Mayes who haven't made it at their current club coming back to SÁ"' post our history of Danny Meyer, Toumpas et al

Mayes apparently had some fairly serious personal issues which would've affected his game this year (and are the main reason he's looking to come back to SA in the first place). He'd been tracking pretty well previously. Showed a lot more at Brisbane than the likes of Meyer and Toumpas did at their previous clubs.

"If Lukosius and Rankine end up going to Gold Coast, we're probably pretty happy to try to get them back in a few years' time," Cripps said.

"It's interesting, because then it just becomes a two-horse race between us and the Crows, as opposed to a Victorian kid that wants to come back home, who has potentially got 10 options.

We should be focused on sorting out our own cluster f*** before we start having a go at other clubs publicly. Stupid comments from Cripps.

I wonder if Cripps is doing something a little more subtle than first appears - daring the Crows to go "a trade too far" to get ahead of our picks.

Every trade period we get one of these dropkick list managers shooting their mouth off for no reason, and seemingly jeopardising our trade position before the deal is done. I'm sure it won't have any influence on the deal, but what need to go flapping about it before time? Other clubs are much better at keeping a lid on it.

And in regards to the go home thing, I can't find where to listen to it but if the context was as painted here then that article on the AFL website is disgraceful. The reaction on the Main Board is exactly what they were going for. Meanwhile, all the big Vic clubs are actually playing out this joke on a grand scale, every year.

maybe that's why we are arming ourselves with a war chest...not a FA next year but but to offer Luko/Rank an offer they can't refuse to come home?? at least after a couple of seasons we'll have a fair idea on how good they are going to be
