lol Barrett asks Wallace "Do you like what you see with this trade?"

Wallace is like "nah, shiels a ****ing spud m8."

Honestly what response was he looking for. Of course it was going to be "Shiel's a gun, they're lucky."

People can talk Wingard down all they like but the facts speak for themselves. His CV rivals nearly any player of his age or younger across the entire AFL. He's a dual All Australian as a forward and over the past 18 months has started taking steps towards becoming the star midfielder he always seemed destined to be. He was our best midfielder in the second half of the season, which is reinforced by the club B&F voting.

If you've got concerns over motivation/commitment issues then you say 'look Chad, we'll give you a $750k base, but you can make up to $1m if you achieve clause a, b and c'. It's not like Chad's the mercenary type, he's always emphasised that he's family first, actively made sure he got to stay in SA during his draft year and has never shown any kind of inclination to want to leave the club until now. It doesn't add up, there must be a significant push factor from the club's end or things just wouldn't be playing out like this.

I don't think this sort of comment is fair either. I don't think it is unreasonable to critically examine a player's worth when you are heading into the 7 figure a year category. It's a bit of a typical BF hyperbolic response.

I'm not talking him down and I doubt anyone else is. I'm trying to give what I think is a balanced view of where I see him sitting in terms of ability and value for money.

I think he is a very good player but I don't rate his efforts as consistently God-tier and don't think he's reached the potential he showed as a John Cahill Medallist (2013) and All-Australian (2013, 2015), that's hardly talking him down.

It's easy to say the club should do this or that, but we have no inside knowledge of how the club has approached him or how his management has worked with (or played) the club.

Shiel has chosen Essendon.

That should keep Dodoro busy for the rest of the week.

Wonder how Essendon's salary cap is looking. Might be a fire sale there soon.

They might as well just cheat the cap, it's not as though the AFL would give them a proportionate penalty.

They still have nothing to tempt us in a trade. Probably a big part of why Shiel didn’t choose them either.

St Kilda will be the ones with a high pick to make a big offer.

Chad would look great in the old, dark navy blue, IMO.

Or 12 months from now.

Either way, this has been a complete and utter balls up. The intention has been to shop Wingard around for early picks in this draft. As it stands now his currency has nosedived and we’ve likely put the player offside.
Now he’ll probably go to Hawthorn and we’ll get nothing decent back in return.

Bravo, Port. Bravo.

I’m not happy about Ken getting another contract either, but to be fair, all had amazing years in Hinkley’s first two seasons.

Nathan Bassett is the massive wet blanket.

What do you mean by "may as well". They are basically cheating the cap right now - and the AFL set up the rules to let them do it - with their penalties.
All the players take club to court - get paid out via compo outside of the salary cap, and then resign on lesser contracts - BANG - massive salary cap space to use elsewhere.
