Ladson should play a full 22 games... so i would pick him

Malceski vs Kennelly

Hall vs Ziebell or Rioli

Newman vs R Shaw

I wouldn't touch Malceski after last year!
Age is a factor with Hall, but its a tough choice between ziebell and rioli.. I have ziebell in my team atm though...
I think both Newman and R Shaw are probably at their end of season value - both reasonably consistent. Either would be equally good taking into account price..

I have 500k looking for value in midfield.. I'm thinking of either Gibbs, Boyd, Selwood, Vince, Murphy or Pendles...
Which of these would you expect to rise in price the most?
I'm heading towards Vince or Pendlebury at the moment.

Pendlebury from that lot... Otherwise I would pick Anthony (but you have to have the balls to take the risk on a 2nd year player)

Different sort of question... Out of the bench midfielders, pick two out of Banner, Shuey, Jetta and Barlow :thumbsu:

and just another quick one more for WC fans... I have decided my eighth back should be a higher priced player due to the lack of good rookies in the backline. So Waters or Sheppard?

Not a WC fan but would go Waters.

D. Thomas or C. Rioli or J. Porplyzia?

Does it matter how much they will rise in price?

Its not like your going to try and upgrade them. They are premiums, not cash cows!

Edit: @ the above.

I would go with none of them!

D.Thomas is a joke Dter.
Rioli suposably has OP, so stay away!
Porps is injured/coming off an injury. Very very risky option.

I would go Bartel. Should push for that top dter spot this year.

Malceski vs Greenwood

Need to watch the rest of the NAB cup for that one. Greenwood was primarily a tagger last year but with a new coach that could change and see him score more points. Watch his role closely in the next couple of games

I'm starting to think that those 4 rookies represent much better value than the higher priced rookies. I think Martin looks the goods, but Shuey, Jetta, Barlow and Banner look better than the melbourne boys and Morabito. And even if they average the same, saving the extra 50-60k on rookies is a huge amount. I just downgraded Trengove to Barlow and Morabito to Banner and it gave me an extra 100k, enough to upgrade Kreuzer to McIntosh and J Brown to Riewoldt. That is a huge advantage IMO.

Definitely Waters for mine (i'm a massive WCE fan). I think he is great value and as long as his body is right he'll play 22 games. I've got 3 low priced defenders in my squad (waters, Kennelly and Hunt) including one on the bench. I think they should all start round 1, give me good cover against 0's and all rise a fair bit in value.

I can't see Sheppard getting a game for at least 4 or 5 rounds, with the amount of young talent coming into the Eagles team. Players like Shuey, Spangher, Schofield etc are all in front of Sheppard for a permanent spot IMO.

Cheers :thumbsu:
Sounds like you have a similar setup in the backline structure to me :thumbsu:

Forwards and back are scarce in rookies who you know will have good job security and score reasonably well. I can't particularly see any of Gumbleton, TDL or Pods averaging over 50 which makes me wonder whether it is worth upgrading Pods to Mayne. I would have to downgrade my 5th back (McPhee) to Scott Selwood to supply the funds for this.

So what are people's thoughts on.

Selwood + Mayne
Vs.
McPhee + Playing a rookie (Gumby, Pods, TDL)

I'm looking for improvement or points per $... its a waste getting a premium who will just stay at the same price when you can get someone else who will rise in price.

So you're saying it is a waste getting Gary Ablett because he is going to stay at 520k for the year averaging 115-120?

Not if he will be your captain, but otherwise there are probably better options.

Another one....
Trengove (port) or Davis
And
Trengove (port) or Lobbe?

If you can see a player like Bartel averaging the same, yes.

Lobbe, but the ruck situation down at Port is one to observe with interest. If Westhoff ends up with the role (looks likely right now) than go Davis.

Rhyce Shaw vs Heath Shaw vs Kelly vs Mackie vs Adcock

I've heard with Kennelly back Rhyce shaw may have a slightly different role this year? ie. not getting so much ball around half back (but this might just be a rumour)..
I wouldn't bother with Kelly or Mackie either (I think Mackie is going to be more of a chb now?)
which leaves Heath Shaw and Adcock, both decent choices imo. Adcock is probably more reliable but less durable?

The reason why R Shaw was in doubt is the one you have outlined, other players might reduce his output.

Why not Kelly? My concern is durability, but he is a big collector of the footy

Mackie plays as a HBF doesn't he? Taylor and Scarlett are CHB and FB respectively at the cats.

Heath Shaw is my current selection, a little unclear on where Adcock will play at the Lions and therefore his output.

I don't mean to question your advice only to create a reasoned discussion in order to help me.

I disagree with this. You need a mix IMO. Some players who you plan on having for 22 weeks and finishing in the top 2 or 3 in their position and then some players who make you money.

If you pick Montagna from the start of the season and he finishes 3rd highest scoring mid but doesnt go up in value then you would probably take that.

I've got an interesting one for the rucks...

NicNat and Sandilands or Kruezer and Tippett

Also...

Mitchell and Danger or Masten and J Brown
