Right, well that was a compelling argument. I'm sold, Pears is better.

Garland's best in 2008 was better than Pears' in 2009 I'd say, so disagreed. He may well turn out better but in exposed form the argument is weak. Akin to me saying Gumbleton will be better than Cloke.
Won't be ahead of...my top 10
would be in no order
L.Franklin
S.Pendlebury
J.Selwood
D.Thomas
K.Tippet
M.Hurley
M.Murphy
C.Rioli
M.Kreuzer
S.Hill
There is quite alot of quality players who all of you are ignoring the likes of pendlebury, murphy and even kreuzer who will be the best ruckman in the league for the next decade.
Scott Pendlebury for mine he is just pure class i just see him being the next simon black he is that smooth, isnt in the media that much but is such a quality player who will be underrated for a long time.
Dale Thomas, yes im being bias but i really see him winning collingwood a premiership and absoloutely tearing it up for the next 5 or 6 seasons.
Ryan Bastinac
Don't reckon he'll be a standout player of the decade, but will be a vital cog in a standout midfield. In a decades time, people will talk about the North midfield of the '10s the same way they do the Fitzroy outfit of the decade just gone.
It's sad that the only one of these boys who has really kicked on isn't even on our list anymoreAyce Cordy.....Could be the best Ruckman/forward in the game in 2 years.
Jordon Roughead...Cordy's partner in crime will form the premier ruck duo of the decade.
Mat Pannos....Just a feeling he'll be a real player in few years, he's a real full forward.
Cal Ward.....He's a gun, similar to Selwood in playing style.
Liam Jones...Yet to play, just like cut of his Jib. Will be CHF or CHB
Shaun Higgins...Gun
Easton Wood....premier running defender in the game in 2 years.
Special mentions to....Sam Reid, Andy Hooper, Eddie Prato (speculative to say the least is a basketballer has played 2 games of footy), Brennan Stack, Josh Hill, J Grant, J Boumann. These guys could be anything, but just a bit early to know just how far they can go.
Extra special mentions. Tom Liberatore, Mitch Wallis. Not yet at the club of course, but it's fun adding them onto my list.
Boy that was fun!
The OP talks about the best players for the entire decade. Some of the players mentioned in this thread will be finished by 2016 and in decline earlier than that.
From my club, Callan Ward is a shoe-in to be the best Bulldog player for the decade, and IMO will end up being the most decorated midfielder in the competition throughout the next 10 years. He wins his own ball, distributes well by hand and foot, has already performed admirably in the white-hot intensity of finals, is a starting 18 player for a top 4 team and is still only a teenager. He will be 29 and very much in his prime by the time this decade ends. With his current rate of improvement, I see him as a top 10 footballer in the competition within the next 2-3 years. Just a sensational prospect.

Love this post. Open to interpretation, but it seems this poster called Pendlebury and Thomas as not going to be ahead of Gibbs, Kruezer and Yarran. Interesting on a number of accounts.Won't be ahead of...
From a Carlton perspective, Yarran has the talent to be number three on our list after Kreuzer and Gibbs.
More x factor than Murphy with his disposal, pace, clean hands and ability to play a leading forward.
Better tackler too.
Not a Gibbs, Yarran or Kreuzer to be seen...Since we're already 4 seasons into the 2010's it's fair to say most of the guys that will be considered the best of the decade are already in the AFL. I'll give a shortlist of guys who I think will be remembered as the best of their era:
Patrick Dangerfield
Taylor Walker
Matthew Leuenberger (top 2-3 ruckman of the decade)
Scott Pendlebury
Dane Swan (if he plays on long enough)
Nathan Fyfe
Harry Taylor
Joel Selwood
Gary Ablett
Jaegar O'Maera
Jeremy Cameron
Jack Ziebell
Chad Wingard
Trent Cotchin
Dustin Martin
Lance Franklin
Nic Naitanui
Ryan Griffin
Loved the Tom Swift nomination on the first page
On topic, really there's so many talented players under 22/23 who should still be playing good footy in 10 years barring injury that's it's a pretty pointless thread.
From Freo I reckon Fyfe and Walters will end up having had pretty decorated careers in 10 or so years.
