Players who were missed in the National Draft

Had Colquhoun not been completely embarrassed by Jack Billings in the VM game then he might have got drafted. But as it stood, when asked to play one on one in that game, his opponent was BOG and won VM the match.

Its no doubt it was a surprise he wasnt drafted, but I think the queries over his game style are valid enough that it wasnt the massive shock people are making it out to be. You've got to be more than just a good uncontested kick and Im not sure he is at this point.
Billings is clearly a great prospect, but him being almost a year younger than Colquhoun made that look even worse for the SA lad.

All the Tasmanians who I thought were good chances to be drafted were, but of some of the others, I think Josh Woolley might have been the unluckiest. Still could get rookied in the PSD.
Two picked in the first round, and a third player who was also his club's first choice, certainly made it a good result for Tasmania.

Bombers have invited Garlett to train with them. We'll see how much he really wants an AFL career now.
With Essendon having apparently said they'll take Steinberg back, Prismall most likely as well, and Tom Fields I think "nominated" (or whatever you'd call it) as a F/S chance for the rookie draft, it's hard to see a spot for Garlett, even if he did manage to behave himself for a week or two.

If Garlett comes and makes an impression, the list spot is his. Huge if that he even comes across IMO.
I'm just going on the pure numbers Mick, with Essendon having 1 primary and 1 rookie list spot available, and assuming what I've read about Prismall and Steinberg being recalled is correct. Perhaps you may find someone else to delist, off the rookie list in particular.

I really do hope Garlett ends up somewhere, changes his ways, and becomes a star.

Fair enou

Nothing wrong with your logic, but they won't overlook Garlett for a lesser player they've given assurances to. Otherwise why invite him to train?

There has been a lot of talk about Colquhoun - i have seen him play many times and obviously at only 17yo has a few faults to his game but the lad is just a natural footballer - I beieve the recruiters liked him but when it came to the crunch they may have looked at his size and baulked. Port should pick him in the psd andgive Jarrah a miss.

Some other SA boys that missed out were Harley Montgomery and Amato. Both are again pretty small so they might not even get rookied - which they should

Whatever happened to Darcy Armfield?
From Glenelg FC website:- key forward Armfield returns to the club after spending a season in the country.

His return to the SANFL also got a mention in the local (Guardian - Messenger) paper last week. He's 20 apparently. I don't know anything much about the story, but if regarded as a draft prospect at 18, playing country football at 19 seems an odd career move.

Does anyone have any info on Jason Pongracic? What kind of player is he?

Pongracic is a strong bodied inside Mid who can go forward and kick goals. Most people knock his kicking but I don't think its as bad as people make out, it's not elite it's just average.

Co-captain of the Stingrays and School Captain at his high school. Missed a fair chunk of the year with an ankle/foot injury.

It was mentioned that Collingwood showed the most interest prior to the draft. I really don't know why he was overlooked.

I'd be stoked if the Tiges gave him a shot

Anyone know who Richmond are keen on? All the other clubs at the top of the order have been linked to numerous players.

No Houli or Grigg this year ...

Could not believe Colquhoun didn't get picked up.
I guess he lacks that stand out factor that all recruiters look for, particularly in the short players.

Names floating around are Nelson, Toy, Stephenson, Wood, Petterd.

And Knights/Chaplin were our Houli/Grigg this year.

Surely Nelson will get a go eventually. From what I heard he took his game to another level in the WAFL. Has been extremely unlucky so far.

He should get picked up somewhere then. GWS should take him as he is good mates with Whitfield.

What kind of player is Nelson? Why hasn't he been picked up yet?
