Maddow made a good report of what sort of thing could happen if Biden hadn't pardoned Hunter. It was a major part of her Ultra II podcast earlier this year. Both it and part 1 are worth listening to.
In the 50's Joe McCarthy used the son of a popular, Dem cleanskin as political leverage. The D first resisted, put when facing a potential massive backlash against his family back home he killed himself in his office instead. The son had been persecuted for something usually not given more than a warning for first offense. The Reps pressured the DC cops to file full charges and the trial nearly killed the mother. So there is precedent for this situation to bring grief by unscrupulous politicos.
I'm sure Biden was aware of the case from the 50s.

I was trying to think of what Chronister had done to get Trump's attention for the job in the first place? Was he the FL sheriff who got some good press for straight talking against crime?
