BLM? The same cause that's saying rioting is the language of the people? The same cause that's baselessly claiming there's systematic racism in the police department? The same cause calling for the defunding, if not outright dismantling of all police departments in the US?

That's what the AFL players are kneeling for?

that’s not really what it’s about but not sure I’m gonna be able to convince you otherwise

happy bleating 👍

You say that, meanwhile there are hundreds of thousands actual BLM protesters in America claiming that's exactly what it's about, including the leaders of the movement.

People like you just make up whatever reason is convenient for any given context.

do you think defunding the police will only help black people?

interesting take

May have saved old mates life in that video you posted

Oldest civilisation on the planet, discrimination rampant, massively over-represented in jails, still dying in custody... "we are young and free" :drunk:.

And yet the 14 year old indigenous kid that stabbed my cousin to death will most likely get a lot more lenient treatment by the court due to his minority status according to Prosecutors. "don't expect much justice" was their words.

I expect if it had been the roles reversed the outcry would have been far greater, the colour of the killer would have been plastered all over the media, the leniency from the court far less.

What's the point of this story. I mean aside from using your cousin's death to justify your racism and score points on the internet.

To point out the justice system isn't as biased against indigenous people as some like to make out.

Well done on highlighting a what low life you are though.

Do you genuinely believe that it is better to be an Indigenous person in Australia’s justice system than white? Against all evidence to the contrary? Seriously?

To be fair worse outcomes for indigenous people is not necessarily proof of racial bias. A pretty obvious confounding variable comes to mind.

Right.

I was just pointing out the irony of the opening line of the national anthem describing our population as "young and free" when indigenous Australians have been here for 75,000 years and still don't have a treaty but I'm sorry to hear your cousin was the victim of violence.

I'm in the states atm and personally agree with the kneeling as a show of solidarity to let our government know we don't agree with racism. For the record I am sure they don't as well it's just small pockets of the uneducated that are that get the headlines.

Over here though it's gone to another level. All of the confederate monuments south of the Maison Dixon line are being defaced and smashed. Worst of all there is a movement that's growing to "defund the police". Seattle right now has 6 square block being patrolled by civilians not allowing any govt workers in. The police precinct is empty and ransacked while the Seattle Governor is fobbing it off as "the summer of freedom". Who do these muppets think they'll when they are in trouble, a crack addict? the garbage collector? The mind boggles. I all for freedom but there is no way you can have joe public calling the shots. China, Russia and Iran must be loving this chaos.

Thank you. I wasn't disagreeing with anything you said in the post I quoted of yours.

I just think that it's being disingenuous to say the justice system is completely biased against Indigenous Australians which is inferred when people say they are over represented in jails. There are many within it who are highly sympathetic to indigenous plight and do take that into account when sentencing.

In our families case though you don't want to be told to be prepared that someones cultural background is a reason to not serve the full justice of the law upon someone.

Montana is the place to be!

Correct. We should work on making things better and not pretending we've done our due diligence because we've dropped the knee, or apologised to someone for something we didn't do.

Real actions count. Pretending we're doing good....not so much.
But it's so much easier just to kneel, it only takes a minute , you feed your moral virtue and receive the social validation you crave without having to actually do anything

If the AFL wanted to make a difference they'd ban alcohol and gambling advertising because addiction is a major health issue for Aboriginals, and all people really.

But they wont cause it'll cost too much.

So they'll sanction a protest so they can say how righteous they are, but not actually do anything to help because it's not financially beneficial.

The AFL have a platform to make a difference. Just as long as it doesn't cost them any money.

If I was running the AFL, I'd do exactly the same, be it hypocritical or not as commercial imperatives are essential.
We just can't pretend they're not.

Boiling it down to this situation though and reflecting the real question rephrasing the Poll from "Do you support kneeling" to "Do you think players should be forced into kneeling, against their will", I wonder whether the numbers would still be similar and if so, can one explain why so?

Right, because the government doesn't already know this, do they?... wait...
