Yep, I prefer that guy.
Would be awesome no doubt.

Yep, I prefer that guy.
Almost as bad as GWS having 9 of the first 11 draft picks and missing Chad Wingard

I think there are 5 very high level footballers in this draft that are just a class above the next rung: Boyd, Aish, Billings, Kelly, Scharenburg. These guys have all the assets and are very rounded footballers and if I was ignoring club needs/preference they would happily be my top 5. I am ignoring McDonald in all of this who is close to being in this bracket.
There is a another raft after them of KK, Lennon, Bontempelli, Sheed, Crouch, Acres, Freeman who all are fairly even & justifiable picks in their own right 6-12.
Scenario 1: I think KK is the one that is jumping the order if GC take him at 5. He is an exciting talent no doubt but I prefer the first 5 I listed. If GC does take him I think this gifts us a first class player, just a matter of which. We would be mad to ignore them. Given Boyd is cemented #1 and Kelly is attractive to GWS,WB & StK the one that may land with us will be Billings/Scharenburg/Aish. If any of those land with us I will be completely content, just need GC to follow through.
The pick 10 then becomes a matter of who is left. If it is Scharenburg we get I would prefer we look at Freeman/Sheed/Acres/Crouch. If Billing/Aish are taken I would prefer we look at Lennon/Bontempelli.
Scenario 2: If the first 5 are all gone & GC surpirses us I think this changes the game a little. I am not sure we would go Kolo. It would bring Bontempelli & Lennon into the mix earlier and we could land our choice of Freeman/Sheed/Acres/Crouch at 10.
For me scenario 1 would be ideal, landing any of Billings/Aish/Scharenburg will make this trade/draft period a massive success. Scenario 2 is still OK but all those players available bring some question marks & risks with them that the first 5 do not.
Lets not get carried away with "comparisons".
Hi guys, here is my October Edition of my Phantom Draft. I'll be doing one more a few days out from the draft, and between now and then I have quite a few catch ups with players, player managers a couple of recruiters and a few other reporters.

Wouldn't help our height problem thoughFreeman and Taylor would solve our pace problem overnight
I think you've summarised it pretty well Didak. This is how I am imagining it too at the moment. It makes it interesting because on my reading we are very keen on Bontempelli but if one of the top 5 slip we have to play that game of roulette if we want to take the slider, gambling on Bonters being there at 10, so you can either 'win it all' if that happens or play conservative by taking Bonters at 6. My gut feeling is that he is close to our top rated player (outside Boyd and maybe 1 or 2 others) so it's an interesting call. I'm sure Derek will have role played all the possibilities. The main factor would seem to be how much Brisbane rate Bonters and how much we know about this.
The thing about the draft every year is that we all read so much analysis to the point that you think you know where everything in the top5 or ten is locking into place but there is always an unexpected twist. Maybe this year will be the 'predictable' draft!
Its funny how everyone is an expert with 'inside' mail.
Such a wank, what will be, will be.
The only person who seems to have any genuine mail on here is Paige who has been wonderfully forthright in passing on info and has really enhanced the discussions. But even with her stuff I think you have to balance it against the fact that most clubs seem to give assurances to a wide range of kids in the hope that some of them will spill through to them.
Otherwise it mostly seems to be smoke filtering out from different clubs doing lots of work on certain individuals being passed on to various reporters, none of which is 100% definite. We are all just analysing what is available to us. Which I find fun.
Should father son bidding happen after trade period or would that then affect teams willingness to trade their top pick??
IIRC Foxtel televise the draft, and the AFL site have the live trade ticker or whatever. Might even have an audio feed, I've forgotten.Do they televise it?
That's a nihilist's wank.. hey that rug really ties the room togetherIts funny how everyone is an expert with 'inside' mail.

Scharenberg, I am telling you will be a legend.
Nice review. Personally I think Scharenburg will go as high as pick 2 to GWS. Just think he would be a great fit for their list. The big slider for me will be Billings who I think we will take at 6. Given the preferences of the other clubs, Kelly / Aish / KK will be gone by pick 6, and think Billings is best available following this lot.
That means unfortunately Bontempelli (pick 7) will be gone, as will Lennon (pick 9). So for me we will take Freeman at pick 10.
But I'm sure no one at Collingwoood will take any notice of what I think
Tristan Foenander of Crocmedia has us taking Scharenberg at 6 and Bontempelli at 10.
Where do we sign..? This would be a dream draft scenario IMO.

Instead of taking Bontempelli at 6 and letting Scharenberg go to Brisbane at 7 wouldn't we be better to take Scharenberg at 6 and just get Bontempelli in two years time when he wants to come home?
That way we get the player who can impact more in the next two years and get the one with more upside once Brisbane have done some of his development. We just need to work out who the Paine equivalent in late 2015 will be to trade for him.....
Depending on who you speak to (and it's quite a vast opinion) Scharenberg will be there at 6 and Bontempelli will be there at 10. But, the club rate Nathan Freeman exceptionally high, and perhaps just as high as Tom Boyd .. and Danog can back that up.
