Opinion Port Adelaide and their Prison Bars

I don’t care what you think. Go back to your own board and maybe read the mood of your supporters that write on the thread about the pylon guernsey. If you live in a different Adelaide, it must be in Georgia.
This is what your President stated last night.

Its obvious to everyone bar one Collingwood supporter on here that Port want to wear the Prison jumper on a permanent basis.

“There is a place for only one black and white striped jumper in the AFL, the iconic Collingwood jumper,” Korda said in a statement.

“In the spirit of AFL collegiality and in recognition of Port Adelaide’s rich South Australian history Collingwood supported the AFL’s decision to allow Port Adelaide to wear a black and white striped jumper in 2020, Port Adelaide 150th year.

“We are surprised and disappointed there is a renewed attempt to introduce the jumper to the competition on a permanent basis, particularly given what we believe to be in agreement was reached between the two clubs a number of years ago.”

Its completely beside the point.

Youre wrong, your own president stated last night, Port wants to wear the jumper on a permanent basis.

Wearing it in Showdowns is the start of this process. I think almost every single Pies supporter can see this.

Im glad your president knows this. Im done interacting with you.

I’ve never known Port Adelaide to have black and white stripes since they begged to be part of the national competition.

So why should it change now? Each club has their distinct colours. If Collingwood joined an existing competition which Port had been a member of for 100 years, then I would have expected us to change our design

Hahaha. Ive never laughed so hard. fu** me.

Your quoting a petition driven by a core group of supporters to wear the jumper permanently? Hahaha. Maybe my club's supporter group who raised a petition to reverse the 2018 Grand Final decision might stand a chance! What a joke.

I said it will never happen - an opinion given the current contracts. A supporter group can wish for $10,000,000 to land in their laps for no reason at all.

Doesnt mean its going to happen.
Agree, but we've been too slack on this matter and the fact that their actual club keep trying to sneak in our brand (that they already stole once in 1901!), then we need to put a hard no on all requests and take legal action on both the AFL and SANFL teams if they choose to **** with us.

If wearing it only for 2 showdowns a year is the worst thing to ever happen and is the most pressing issue between these 2 teams or the AFL well big deal. Seriously.

Im glad you're done interacting with me. I'll let you, and my president or my ex-president engage in conspiracy theories regarding brand and jumper takeovers that keep you all up at night because you know it will happen in the future.

As I asked you twice already - what do you care about them wearing the jumper? Its because it intimidates your club isnt it? That Port get a good kick out wearing it..

If I watch a game of soccer and I see a team with black and white stripes I assume it’s Juventus playing. I never think it could be Newcastle or the Melbourne Zebras.

Do Port want those outside Adelaide who are watching the footy across the country (world? That may be a stretch), to think Collingwood is playing each time they wear black and white stripes?

It’s flattering, but they can’t rely on us and need to forge their own identity.

Correct.

Your president made the statement last night, that Port ultimately want to have the jumper in the comp on a permanent basis, hence he is putting a stop to it now.

and the only reason you are against it is because your president has run a 20 year fear campaign based on his outdated views of branding (to go with his outdated views on everything else).

Sponsorship is linked to how much exposure the club gets, membership is linked to team performance. None of it linked to what Port wears.
The reason is that there is only one team in the AFL that has worn the black and white vertical stripes continually from 1897 onwards. There is one team that has worn blue and white hoops, blue and white bold colours, magenta, magenta and blue, and a heap of versions from 1870, up until AFTER Collingwood started with black and white stripes. Your heritage jumper should be one of those. That is what heritage is.

I said nothing about sponsorship or membership. It has to do with the branding of the club. Port has Teal in its colour.

Have a look at this for you to understand your guernsey history. In fact, in a few of those years, Port actually wore the Collingwood guernsey... will you claim that as your heritage guernsey too??

What Port wants and what is obtainable are poles apart and completely unachievable.

I dont think its not unreasonable at all that they are able to wear the jumper twice a year ONLY against Adelaide. Lock it in. Air tight, ironclad contract for the next 50/100 years and then move on with what really matters at their footy club.

But engaging in conspiracies about their motives that quite frankly are not obtainable currently is just fanciful.

Rubbish. We're not giving them a mile now, in the past or in the future.

Its about 2 games against the other local side only and thats all it would be. Hardly the need for such ridiculous, drawn-out discussions about a jumper that is worn for 2 matches a year.

LOL, the post said “give them an inch they’ll take a mile”

It would be very easy to prevent them from wearing a jumper for more than 2 times a year. Normal rounds only. No finals. Put it in writing and be very clear.

Not some rubbish contract saying heritage round only that Eddie has admitted was being tossed.

Port has played Adelaide in a final what once since 1997? And now you're concerned that they'll be wanting to play in a jumper 3 to 4 times a year? Ha thats laughable.

Why does an Adelaide supporter feel so strongly against this? What has it got to do with your club? Do you feel it empowers Port Adelaide to stronger performances against your club?

Even easier to just say NO! Zero ambiguity.

We never should of let them even wear it once.

Could see this happening. We tried being nice to them and they took advantage of that.
Even easier to just say NO! Zero ambiguity.

Port and the Pies signed a document allowing for Port to wear the jumper during heritage round a few years ago, now Kane Cornes last night is trying to claim that the Showdown is a heritage game.

As you said, say No. Zero ambiguity. Dont let them lay a seed for it to flourish years from now.

I dont really see the difficulty in saying yes - for 2 games only (sign here please) - and be done with it and moving on to the more important things concerning our club.

Engaging in what ifs and conspiracies surrounding Port Adelaide's intentions regarding the jumper are just distracting.

Plenty of other sporting leagues around the world that dont have hard ons for a jumper like Eddie McGuire has had.

You do realize the the ultimate power at a football club lies with the supporters don’t you?

Sorry port. No deal.

If you guys have that much of a hard on for a black and white jumper you can just relinquish your AFL Licence an merge with port in the sanfl.

You can wear it all year long.

Black and white, vertical stripes = Collingwood.

You forgot the horizontal one on the Port Adelaide guernsey.

Yeah but there are very few supporters pushing that, most just want to be able to wear it against the crows as a celebration of our past. If the time comes where Port Adelaide are wanting to wear it for all home games and if that's your reason for not wanting it, take up the fight then not now.
Allowing Port to wear it twice a year in perpetuity in their biggest home and away match would normalise Port's AFL team wearing black and white prison bars. It could legitimise any push for them to be adopted for all home games in the eyes of AFL/the courts. Much better to ward off the issue now so that it doesn't become more difficult for us to stop later.

Port can have prison bars as long as there’s teal on their jumper
