Opinion Port Adelaide and their Prison Bars

It's an amazing discussion,
From what I have read Port had a black and white jumper 20 years before we did.
But to counter that Port joined the AFL as a new Port Adelaide and has no connection to it's past?
Others can counter Collingwood was called Britannia Football Club.
Port did not have a black and white jumper before Collingwood. Go back to one of my previous posts where I posted a YouTube link, showing the history of Ports guenseys. They even used the Collingwood guernseys for a few years..

Port first wore the prison bars in 1902, 5 years after collingwood

This week I was having a chat with a senior marketer from one of the clubs major sponsors, who also happens to be a Collingwood supporter. They have a son that plays with Newport Power in the WRFL. Newport wear the PAFC style jumper with the teal, black and white.

The topic of discussion was ironically centered on how good the Port Adelaide jumper actually looks and how from a neutral perspective how it is the best jumper in the AFL.

When I think about it though, for a team that has such a big SA bias, why would they put the colors in a big V formation?

Port adopted the black and white in 1902, ten years after Collingwood.

Britannia and Collingwood are separate clubs with different histories.

Britannia just happened to play at Victoria Park, but were more intertwined with Fitzroy and the residents of Collingwood didn't embrace them as their own club hence the formation of Collingwood in 1892.

Unlike Port Adelaide, Collingwood has worn black and white since day 1.

Neither did Collingwood hence Britannia Football Club.

And Port Adelaide in the SANFL is separate also?

Even if that was true it's irrelevant.
We were the first to wear in the VFL and also the first to wear it in the AFL.

Of course, nothing screams "Its the VFL" than "If you don't like it, leave."

I don't recall that being put to Collingwood when their whingeing about COLA came about. Hypocrites
It’s the AFL, and if you don’t like it, go back to your State league..
The same worn out “woe is me” arguments.. duh, it’s the VFL.. The big bad Victorians don’t like us.. The Victorians screw us every time... etc etc...
Here’s my violin....

Because that “double v” is what the SA State representative jumper is like. Red base, with blue and yellow V. Just google it and when you see it, it will make sense..

Fair enough I give up,
Growing up in Melbourne I supported Port Adelaide.
And also any other team that wore Black and White in the local comps.
Newcastle United etc.
Enjoy the discussion I have no more input.

In the AFL, the black and white stripes belong to Collingwood.
In the SAFL, they belong to Port Adelaide.
We must never concede this.

And what about local clubs in Victoria that call them selves Magpies and wear a Black and White jumper?
Surley we must have the same rule?

Well the AFL was Pretty Much the VFL.

IF
Collingwood wanted to play in the SANFL we would have to Change our Name

No, because they don’t play in the AFL.

No, because they don’t play in the AFL.

Cool finally explained to me you are a legend.
When port power where created there is a legal contract that they will never play in Black and White jumpers,Unless Collingwood agreed to let that happen.

Don't know that there's ever been a more laughable carry on by a club. In the AFL we have Port Power with a black, teal and white jumper with no stripes. Collingwood play in the AFL as the Magpies with a black and white striped jumper. End of story. If Kochhead is so desperate to wear black and white stripes then join the SANFL where they can celebrate their black and white striped heritage. Weird, I always thought the focus should be on winning games. How they've fallen from the hard portside workers to fashion conscious flogs.

I agree,
We should have never agreed to them using that jumper in 2020!
Perhaps the AFL overruled this?

No, i don't think that is correct. There is a signed document between Port, AFL and Collingwood, that allows port to wear the guernsey in "Heritage" rounds only, and only when they don't play Collingwood.

Otherwise, i don't think there is any agreement where we are the sole authority to give consent... the AFL are the only body that makes the decisions on the guernseys, since they own all the rights.

I’m pretty sure the original agreement allows us discretion, the AFL merely rubber stamp what we decree.

What a flog. COLA disadvantaged every team not on the receiving end of the handout. Yeah, that was exactly the same as the petulant whinge and foot stamping emanating from the f&$#wits at Port. Sod off to your own board moron.

Yep, perfect opportunity to get a Tassie team into the AFL.
