Unfortunately with their soft draw the crows will go far. They will however get found out in the intense pressure of finals, then they can go back to being the plastic soulless club they are.

I really don't know what to make of this game. No lobbe and no wines adds to the nerves, combined with our makeshift start to the season, a win seems unlikely.

Part of me wants to believe that we will win and make a statement, surely the club would be desperate to get a win at home in front of the supporters after the last debacle v Sydney.

Then I remember we are playing hawthorn, arguably the best team in the comp.

To me our long term future will be affected by the result of this game. The crows with their soft draw and renewed enthusiasm under the new coach are making ground back on the football paradigm in SA and we need to beat a contender then beat them to put them back in their box.

My gut wrenched when I heard Gerard on the coach tonite mention "what about Adelaide and Sydney ?" When one of the other buffoons deemed Fremantle hawthorns opponent in this years grand final. It takes so little these days for certain teams to become rated above others and vice versa.

A win on Saturday night is crucial. It's Anzac Day. We are playing the premiers and the ones who finished our season last year, arguably costing us the cup.

A loss pretty much closes the door on top 4 and all but ensures we finish off second best to our cross town rival.

I just hope Hinkley and co have the plan to set us on the right track starting with a win against the Hawks in 5 days time.

We need to target their spiritual leader Hodge. He gets way too much respect from the opposition. Rough him up
'Spiritual' and also, you know, their captain.

Throw Hammer in the guts for Ollie, he's not been given as much of a run since Ollie has bossed the inside mid role but Hamish is still very good there. This is where depth counts.

I am so looking forward to this game..... soak in the night..... its gonna be a chilly night...wet dewy night to peg it back to a 50/50 game from 60/40.

Its a game that is going to be won on clinical decisions being made with split seconds to do so. Our reflexes need to be razor sharp and our structure needs to be clean as it was against Richmond in the 1st Qtr on that QF last year.

I would say that our previous games against would be somewhat tougher opponents than Hawthorn has played, depleted Bulldogs, Don's (loss) and far from their best Geelong. So our preparation couldn't be any better for this game.

WE MUST WIN THE BALL in the TRENCHES...to have any chance of winning this game, and each player backing each other up.

I wonder PR work is happening the background for this game.... wouldn't mind another spiel from Ken...

Kane has all the ammunition he needs to hit back at the critics to rack up a cricket score, Cornes that is to tag Mitchell out of the game, or would you put him on Hodge?

I don't like any other teams but I respect the Hawks a shitload.

When you set out to become a respected powerhouse of the competition it doesn't hurt to finish just 1% off the bottom with four wins - netting Roughead, Franklin and Lewis inside the first seven picks of the one draft - while taking a massive chunk of IP from the incumbent premier (Clarkson, Russell, Morris, Hardwick, Pelchen).

The same premier they could only get 11,682 fans to stump up to see on the way to a 9 goal pantsing the visitors did the bare minimum to achieve.

They've converted this and other advantages (Ta$mania) into a dynasty and good luck to them, but the seeds of their current era were sewn in circumstances as dire as anyone's.

#neverforget

Look at it this way tribes, if Port ever gets as big as Hawthorn for a long period of time, our cellar dwelling times will be forgotton or unknown in the next generation.

WE must not forget or to be unkown for the next generation because this is what will keep us big for a very long period of time.....I know I will never forget those bad times.....

I'm talking short sighted AFL fans (of whom 90% are casuals, and make up the entire Fox Footy article readership).

I'd be tempted to play The Hitman on him all day but then that means we have to find someone to play on Bruest. If Hale doesnt play then we can probably get away with Tommy following around Hodge.

We beat Hawthorn at AO last year and then ran them to the line in the prelim - we have absolutely nothing to be afraid of.

Lobbe and Wines are not irreplaceable, we pick two players in their place that are hungry and desperate to make an impact.

I've got a good feeling about this game. Big crowd, back in form, let's have a red hot crack at the best in the business.

Hitman needs to lift - 3 ordinary games this year. Give him the job on Hodgee.
Jonas's first game was tagging Hodge - Hodgee was not happy with the attention.

I had Jonas in my top 5 Port players for round 1 and 2. Far from ordinary imo.

Good point re Tommy Jonas and his first up game on Luke Hodge.
Tommy got in his face and annoyed the living sh*it out of him, so much so that Hodge threw his toys and dummy out of the cot on a couple of occasions, and clearly mouthed `who is this c***? ' ;)

Port are a much better team across the board than we were in those days, but the squawkers are a very professional, well coached unit, even though said coach was a dirty little sniper when he played for the dees and norda melbun, so our boys will need to be at, or close to their best to get the chocolates.

Bring it on!

Record breaking crowd again???

Not overly confident about this understandably but **** I'm so ****ing excited!

Roughy is a huge matchup problem for us. One of the best players in the league and he tore us a new one in that final.

We really need a big game from Boak, he hasn't hit the same level as he was last year. What better time to do it.

More importantly we need Lobbe in.

I see a few Hawks fans are a bit worried about playing us over here. Interesting.
