Port Adelaide's plan to use jumpers similar to Collingwood

The VFL is a second tier league. Clubs like Werribee and Coburg aren't selling millions of dollars worth of merchandise or attracting international sponsors.
Identity/branding is a far lesser concern here than in the AFL, the premier professional sporting competition in the country.

The 20/20 big bash is the premier professional sporting competition in the country.

Not in the AFL it isn't.

Port's AFL identity is the Power, they fecking even sung the Power themesong whilst they pulled on the 'Bars last week.

We've got the Power to win
Power to rule
Come on, Port Adelaide aggression
We are the Power from Port

For the AFL fan, there is no association with the 'Bars.....just like there is no association with the Redlegs, Double Blues, Roosters or Panthers.

Agreed. Power supporters talking about the Maggies and the prison bars is like your American friend talking about how Irish they are.

LoL...that has been done for you on multiple occasions.

US sports, the colours aren't the brand, they rely more heavily of names and logos in their merchandise.

This is ridiculous, both Port and Collingwood use their club logo on their uniform, and the uniforms are very distinct. It is completely ridiculous to argue that the Prison Bars are indistinguishable from Collingwood's stripes but that the Maple Leafs and Lightning are obviously different.

You can't explain why Collingwood will be harmed by another club using the same colours. They won't be harmed. All you can say is that you don't want it to happen.

I'm happy to drop this if you and your fellow supporters can drop the ridiculous argument that Port wearing the black and white will have any measurable impact on Collingwood whatsoever. It's a weak, easily disproven argument.

If Port started wearing the prison bars at home full time, there would be no impact on Collingwood.

So you're saying we just need to continue to make noise about this until brand recognition reaches a certain level and then we're good to go?

No, otherwise I would have typed that.

Ooh are you aware that you can type one thing and infer another?

You're arguing that the prison bars aren't closely associated with Port at AFL level so we shouldn't be allowed to wear them.

So we'll just up the intensity of the campaign until they are closely associated, and then we're good to wear them whenever we like. Thanks!

Why do you keep telling me/rephrasing what I'm arguing? If you want clarification of what I've posted, just ask mate. Or you can go re-read the post. You don't have to do a Cathy Newman impersonation.

Why enter into a discussion if you're just going to be obtuse and then back away from your point when it's challenged?

Seems cowardly to me.

Let’s cut the sh1t.

The only real obstacles here are ego and the inherent inequality that exists in the league. Not all clubs are treated the same and those who are favoured have nothing to gain by making things more equitable. So they don’t. Add a generous splash of good ol’ fashioned entitlement and hey presto there’s your core problem.

Everything else is just misdirection and nothing short of complete nonsense.

I was agreeing with another poster, and then you tagged me, started LARPing as me and rephrasing my posts, and then answering your own made up arguments

If you've got a point to make, or a question to ask, you can just do it mate lol. There's no need for the theatre and all that.

If AFL fans have no association with it, why is Eddie and you so frightened by it?
Frightened? More like sick of it.

There is 25 years of Power AFL history.

The Power have a strong rivalry with the Lions and Crows in the AFL, have a tradition of choking in finals after dominant H&A seasons and are famous for 119.

That is the AFL association, none of it has anything to do with the wharf pylons.

The wharf pylons history is against the Redlegs, Double Blues and Panthers where Magpie fans would cheer on the black and the white! Honour the Magpies day and by night!

Important to acknowledge SANFL history, but that isn't part of their AFL identity.

Seriously, still banging on about attendances? 3rd highest attendance in the round behind WCE vs ADL and only 6k behind Mel vs Carl at the G. Only 26k at your own match? Yay for football in Victoria in 2021.

Nah still banging on about how much you lot whinge and majority of your supporters who are all “so proud” etc are only good for when port are a definite to win.

Thanks for caring with your well thought out post after 216 pages. Can't wait to see what you think in the next 216 pages of this thread :D

I can see Power, Magpies, Blues, Giants, Bombers in the below....but no Redlegs, Double Blues, Roosters, Panthers or wharf pylons?

If Port fans want to cheer cheer the black n white wharf pylons they can get down to Alberton oval this weekend when they clash with the Roosters in the SANFL.

AFL Power fans will get to hopefully see Port dish out a belting to the Magpies at the MCG on Sunday.

Frightened? More like sick of it.

If you're not frightened, why do you care?

If you don't think it'll negatively impact on Collingwood, why does it matter if another team wears the guernsey it wants to wear.

Don't get me wrong, you're right that there's no reason to be frightened and you're right to be sick of it. But there is only one way to resolve that.

Choking in finals? Now there’s a Collingwood trademark, so famous it has a dedicated wiki page.

I'm sorry, you don't get to make this argument until you can construct an argument as to why colours can be shared in major professional sporting competitions all over the world, bigger and smaller than the AFL, but not in the AFL.

Because we care about our colours

We have a unique phenomenon in Australian rules football whereby our song is sung with gusty by grown men after a winning game ( only time Australian men sing with gusto)

Cheer cheer the Red and the White
We’re from Tiger land .. Yellow and Black
We are the Navy Blues .. we are the old Dark Navy Blues
Every heart beats true for the Red and the Blue
Because we are the mighty Blue and White

“ Side by side they stick together,
To uphold the Magpies name.” Its even the Collingwood song to uphold the Magpie name ..

Embrace Australia and embrace the culture.

So you think that because AFL clubs have club songs, they care more about their colours than teams from other sports?

Surely you'd be okay with a club who spent 90 odd years singing club songs about black and white getting to wear black and white then?

Or does this only apply to Victorian teams?

Yes I do . The jumper colour is very important.
Would I have changed my colours to join the AFL ? Yes
No I wouldn’t let another team change their colours to my teams in the league.

We all feel sorry for Port.
Perhaps if you think of it like a caterpillar turning into a beautiful butterfly.
