But is anyone in any of these leagues harmed by another team wearing the same colours? What makes the AFL different?
Collingwood are the ones who believe they'll be harmed.
I definitely know those Leagues are tanking in Australia, mainly because they're not operating the traditional Australian way, and part of that formula is each club having it's own unique appearance. It's like that in AFL & NRL.
Given how Sydney FC call me several times in the past two pre-seasons to re-sign as a member, I'm sure they'd prefer to have me in the fold. I liked Melbourne Heart. I liked the distinguishing element they had with their appearance, against Melbourne and Sydney. Same as Western Sydney has with Sydney FC. Wanderers really took off. They looked and were a real alternative to Sydney FC. Melbourne, City & Sydney FC are all blue and a bit similar now, just from different locations. A bit how Giants haven't really taken off here against Sydney Swans. Much the same, just a different location 20km away from the CBD.
Super Rugby? Teams look ****ing different every match in that League. I can't keep up.
Collingwood want to protect the fact that they're unique in the AFL with black and white stripes. Like Green Bay are with green and yellow in the NFL. Or Dallas Cowboys with their white jerseys. Iconic brands in their sport.
