3 years would've been a bold level of commitment in the context. 4 years would be reckless, but there may have been free agency deals of that length on the table. 5 years for a bloke with injury concerns who'll be 29 by round 1 of the first year is the clear product of weak hand negotiation. No other list manager will have been offering that.

5 years for Rory Sloane is the shit club no history effect in full technicolour, as obvious as any of the players who have left.

I reckon they know he probably won’t last the full 5 years and the contract would be very heavily front ended.
