"Adelaide would have to be close to top of an "AFL concedes the call should've gone their way" ladder over the past year."

That's because you're a bunch of entitled whiners who bitch constantly about everything. If other teams bitched and whined as much as the tingles did they'd probably all be well past them.

Not sure the coaches care about that overly, their careers on the line. AFL need to protect the game.

I still think interchange needs to be wound back, tire players out, less impact collision etc etc.
Dear god no. We already have a game where basic skills are not being executed in part due to fatigue. More bench caps is gonna make it worse.

Ironically if they’d paid that there would be less whinging.

The bigger crime was Walker staging for the free seconds before.
The issue was they were so hot blowing for the ball up. With two seconds left if the umps just let it roll then they could say 'two seconds isn't enough to call holding the ball', but blowing for a ball up just showed cowardice.

Challenging the Greene suspension is an absolute waste of time. It was worse than the Baker/Crouch hits that got a week each.
These type of suspensions should be challenged every time until it’s made clear what a player who finds themselves in Toby’s situation is actually meant to do.

I nominate 'Murphy gets pushed from behind but goes down holding his neck, can't take the kick and has to go to the bench, while the ball is given to Dawson for a kick after the siren.'

Or Sam Jacobs falls over own feet in ruck contest in the forward pocket, paid free, goals.

Or Josh Jenkins hits the post, goal

Or any of the lopsided free kick counts they get at Adelaide Oval especially.

Agreed.

I wonder whether we will get to the point where the bloke running with the flight of the ball is automatically held liable for any high contact in a marking contest - whether he has his eyes on the ball or not. Ie - the bloke coming at the ball has right of way. Would be a major change to the fabric of the game, but I'm not sure how else the AFL will be able to sort this.

It's not getting much air time yet, but I think head high contact in marking contests - particularly knees to the back of the head - is the elephant in the room for the AFL...

Shhh. Let them think it's the umpires.

Pros and cons, perhaps basic skills not being executed are because of the increased pressure? Perhaps slowing the game down may increase the skills?

I don’t recall the 80’s and 90’s era’s having crappy skills. The impact of less rotations was repeat ball ups and congestion around the ball, which we still have but worse with flood zones now.

I think it has to go that way in part because there’s not enough talent in the league for the best players to be missing 4 game blocks. Basically a ‘no fault’ collision rule.

While we are on the topic, it amazes me that some players still don’t wear mouth guards. I know the science behind whether they reduce concussion isn’t perfect or easy to prove but if you were running a wing with Andrew Gaff would you rather have one or not? Should be mandatory PPE.

Meanwhile the NSW Dept for the Ageing received multiple complaints from retirement homes in western Sydney of a film unit yesterday pestering residents for them to be filmed being walked around the grounds in their wheelchairs by 2 guys called Jesse and Toby.

Dear little old ladies trying to get back across roads they never wanted to cross.

Stick out their hands to attempt a mark, not bump. 'Bracing for impact' isn't an excuse anymore. The AFL have already made this very clear, the players just need to listen.

Yep. If it had been a teammate instead of an opponent, Greene would have found a way to avoid bumping him to the head. They just need to apply the same care to their opponents.

Trying to remember the players the Lions got of Fitzroy
1.Allister Lynch
2.Martin Pike
3.Jarrod Molloy
4.Scott Twins
5.Chiis Johnston
Missed Paul Roos,Ruchard Osborne,Doug Barwick,Gary Pert by a few seasons.

The eight merger players were:

1. Scott Bamford
2. Jarrod Molloy
3. John Barker
4. Brad Boyd
5. Chris Johnson
6. Simon Hawking
7. Shane Clayton
8. Nick Carter
9. Matthew Primus (pick 3 — Rory Hilton & pick 26 — Tim Notting; Port free agent compo)

Lynch joined from Fitzroy via trade in 1993, and Pike joined from NM at the end of 2000.

Chris Scott was drafted by the Bears in 1993, and Brad Scott was traded in from the Hawks (for Barker, Nathan Chapman, and an exchange of picks) in 1997.

Fully understand that’s what the AFL want. Just not convinced how it is meant to work in practice.

Does Greene ‘sticking out’ his hands reduce the impact 100% of the time? Doubt it.

Plus J Brown recruited as father/son after senior played 50 games for Fitzroy?

Correct. They inherited Marc Murphy’s FS rights too, but despite a seafood dinner and schmooze with Lethal and Brown, he chose to go into the draft.
