North are such a nothing club imagine being the travelling wilburys for cash and only having 7 home games in your own state a season. God damn the lack of foresight & need to cull the VFL minnows when the game went national will make this league a laughing stock forever.
North, after 100 years in this shitty comp just are not a viable club. They serve no purpose. In fact they are a hinderance. The worst decision the AFL ever made was not forcing them to go to the Gold Coast.

AFL is just gun shy after Fitzory became practically the first team to fold since University

the Vics oscillate between pining for the Old fizroy days and clining on to Brisanbane are technically part Fitzroy so their 4 premierships are just like 4 Fitzroy Premierships so its fine they moved

the worst thing for north melbourne was Fiztroy going away

1 they missed on the merger and possibly being the 2000 dynasty
2 it made them the runt of the victroian litter. they didnt see it at the time as they were a powerhouse on field in the 90s

How ludicrous is it that a Melbourne minnow selling games to WA is seen as the way to mitigate the travel concerns for WC & Freo by AFL House. Schedule Victorian clubs to play an extra game over there every year ffs and they all have to take their turn show some backbone.

1 they missed on the merger and possibly being the 2000 dynasty

A couple of suburbs over, North Melbourne-Fitzroy was the logical merger, Brisbane were always going to exist in one form or another as the league’s Queensland outpost.

A whole array of factors contrived to scupper things, from North Melbourne’s position of strength (opposition clubs really didn’t want to tack Primus, Boyd and Johnson onto Carey, McKernan and Pagan), to Greg Miller’s strategic dithering to extract the best possible deal for North.

Instead of a solidly midsized Melbourne club that would’ve been financially secure well into the next century, we got the Bears in red guernseys when they play away.

2 it made them the runt of the victroian litter. they didnt see it at the time as they were a powerhouse on field in the 90s

They wrongly assumed their dominance would logically lead to generational growth.

A whole bunch of little black sheep who weren’t impressed with a largely terrible Collingwood outfit circa 1995-2000 and had their heads turned by the royal blue and white machine, would continue to go against the grain of their mum and dad and become card-carrying Kangaroo members in adulthood.

Didn’t really pan out.

Politically its kind of a smart move for the kangas

if everytime theres a shit sandwitch to be eaten they eat it for the AFL, gives a reason for the AFL to keep them around.

lets the AFL throw the 2 WA clubs a bone.

a very small one but if the WA clubs push for more the AFL can point to it and fob them off as "Hey we're trying over here"

Melbourne is without a president and now a CEO after Gary Pert made the decision to quit his post following another horror off-season for the Demons.
In the wake of president Kate Roffey’s abrupt departure, Pert informed the club of his decision on Thursday as the Demons await the findings of two separate reviews into the club’s operations and club culture.
The findings are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.

We could sell them a Koch/Richo/Davies trifecta...

North also knocked back an offer of approx $100 million to relocate to the Gold Coast in 2006-2007ish. In hindsight was a terrible decision.

Who's stupid idea was it to combine the AFL and AFLW for the McClelland Trophy? What a joke.
The usual AFL way. Identity 'problems' (1. AFLW not popular enough for their liking, 2. Not getting enough kudos for running AFLW) and come up with a half-arsed solution of this to fix the two 'problems' by trying to force interest from those not interested, as they'll 'be invested' in the McClelland Trophy and they can bask in praise on how progressive they are for giving half the money to the AFLW players.

The former might have worked to some degree, if they'd made the McCelland Trophy have any meaning at all previously, but no one has ever given a shit about them. The reality though, those who follow AFLW, outside a very small percentage, would take an AFL flag and AFLW spoon and a 9th finish in the McClelland, then an AFLW flag, AFL 2nd or lower and winning the McClelland Trophy, no matter how much money they attach to it.

I saw a pic of Houston at the Gym with some Collingwood players online yesterday, looking a little out of shape compared to his teammates i must say. Probably just his body shape and hopefully not an indication of the overall fitness of our players compared to theirs.
Welcome to Port and undersized players! Now in it's 20th odd season of looking like boys vs. mens multiple times a season. Houston will get bigger whilst at Collingwood. At least he's not at Geelong, so he won't get a mysterious enlarged forehead or sudden hair loss.

‘Integrity’.

Surely if a team can’t afford to play a season at home they need a new home.
If they wanted to push into a market others (or only one) weren't in like Tasmania, that's one thing (or Port in China, although not our home game), but selling a game to WA (or if it'd had been to SA, QLD or NSW) is just more evidence, that no matter what support the VFL throws at North, they shouldn't be in the competition.

The issue looked like he was carrying more weight than the others, more fat, the others looked skinnier but more ripped.
