It was selfish to be asked to do a clinic after the bnf! They felt pressured to agree however never really wanted to go. Coke and beer has a long recovery time! Selfish kids and parents!

Free agency compensation is literally 1 club getting a player for free whilst the 16 clubs not party to the exchange compensate the 1 club losing that player.

Given the compo handed out for Battle and Cumming, it’s astonishing how we only got pick 32 or whatever it was for Danyle Pearce.

If we weren’t coming off such a sh¡t year it would’ve been even worse.

Isn't this whole compo farce because the FA compo formula takes into account only gross contract pay, rather than contract value as a percentage of payment cap? I.e. 5 years at $800k nets you the same compensation in 2024 as it would in 2020 despite the cap uplift?

Yeah no idea how it works exactly, but the crazy pay offers are clearly resulting in skewed outcomes,

With this caveat not coming into play because reasons.

No because the compensation formulae is along the lines of "a player's contract puts them in the top 5% of contract values therefore its band 1 compo".

Then as more players who get larger contracts under the increased salary cap, then players need to be paid even more to fall into the top 5%.

The best time to lose a player to free agency is just when contracts are only just starting to take into account the raised cap.

It was combined compensation for Pearce and Chaplin, an absolute joke. Even getting an end of 2nd round for Amon who was in the all Australian squad and received a big deal was also a joke. When McCarthy died we were unable to replace him. We always get screwed by the AFL

Got knocked back for list compo for Ryder and Monfries’ WADA suspensions too.

Ahh.
An "expert committee" then, eh?
Well, you can't debate that, can you.

Nah we got a 2R pick each for Chaplin and Pearce - used on Clurey and Shaw. We tried to petition the AFL to combine them into a first rounder, unsuccessfully.

The Return of the Chemist
From the article - John will assume the full-time role as "Head of Football – West Coast Eagles" and work across the entirety of the club’s football programs and teams. His responsibilities will include coaching structure and development, performance and culture.

Sounds like GM Footy Operations position without the title.

Surely you're taking the p$ss?

The selfishness was not in parents asking for professional football players to attend a kids footy clinic, totally unaware of what the player's social diary looked like.

The selfishness was the Hawthorn Football Club and players accepting the invitation, and then not showing up.

'The Family Club™' my arse.

Signed jumpers for each kid who was disappointed by the non-show incoming.

It was a cash-in-hand gig for Wiz and Ginnivan by a third-party organisation.
