I can't help but think "Wildcard Round" is just the VFL's panic reaction to too many interstate teams being up there this year.

99 SF Blues/WCE - even though the Eagles won the first final and the Blues lost theirs.
04 PF BL/Gee - the Lions hosted a home PF at the MCG against the team down the highway.

That's not been a thing for a while. They just need to have X number of finals at the MCG in a certain period of time, which I'm sure they've already got to the quota for.

Six weeks ago Carlton was looking pretty sitting 2nd on the ladder. Since then they’ve lost 5 of their 6 last games (I’m counting today as a loss). What a fall from grace.

Got them to a prelim in his second season just like Hinks so it's only fair to give him another decade without questioning his tenure. If their fans start agitating in eight or so years time by deploying a sticker on Lygon St, I fully expect the AFL media to rally around him by calling the fans ingrates and having unrealistic expectations because it's not the VFL anymore.
