Port given permission to wear the stripes

That's right I was there, sitting there with my plastic poncho on trying to stay dry.

By the way, we've played 3 matches so far this year infront of more than 70,000 people....and it's only round 7!

No wonder you bozzo's want to disguise yourselves as Collingwood.

Why the **** would we shame oursels by trying to be Collingwood? Collingwood make Black & White look pretty bad - 2 Premierships in 50 years.

70,000? Yeah against another Victorian team. Weldone.

Only because you play a lot of games against other teams from the same city as you - theoretically 70k means 35k fans from each team, not that impressive.

You sure are amazing, amazing that such a poor club could be so well followed. You should be proud of that.

I'll stick to my team though, I think winning premierships give me more joy than seeing my club's record profits.
Not been such a fantastic ride in the AFL then has it? Of all the approx 7 year post entry concession flag winners you are at the tail end with 1. Lions 3, Crows & WCE 2. Not quite sure what you think you are bragging about?

The serious answer is that we will wear black and white stripes. There is no clash but if the hysterics and those that like to make posturing statements get too hysterical you might at some point see Collingwood wear the old black on white to avoid the non existent clash. I look forward to Willaim’s grandstanding on this leading into to the pre game hype up and resultant big crowd baying for blood – and going home disappointed.

There's no clash? One of Cwood and Port's alloted "clash" teams is each other. So at the MCG Port would wear teal, and at AAMI Cwood will wear the predominantly white version of their guernsey...right?

And thanks to those who answered, including you. I wonder tho, if any NEW agreements were made in regards to this while they were at it regarding the heritage round agreement.

We exist to win premierships.
So you’ve had 1 successful year in the AFL and 9 failures. Good for you. I think you exist to brandish clichés like they have meaning. Taking it 1 flag at a time no doubt. Fair enough I guess you only have 1 existence.
You exist to line Eddie's pockets.
Me? Collingwood supporters?
Eddie’s pockets?
How much have I contributed to Eddie? About the same as you I venture to suggest.
/end thread
For you it should be. I think it’s a bit beyond you this supporter/revenue/football club thingy.

Winning premierships??

You've only won one AFL premiership. So have we.:thumbsu:

North Melbourne won 2 flags in the 1990's and were the dominant side in that era. Didn't get them very far though, still only around 20,000 members and with a re-location breathing down their neck.

I suggest Port Power make some long term plans regarding your clubs appeal and crowd numbers, otherwise you're not going to have any premiership's to bring you joy. I would suggest that Port Adelaide is not the desired destination for most young talented footballers from Victoria, W.A or the rest of Australia for that matter.

Collingwood havn't been able to attract 3 of the most talented kids in NSW by chance.

Don't scoff...Port may be ahead of the Kangaroos in terms of stability and a healthy future. But you're miles behind Adelaide, West Coast and even Fremantle now.

Rubbish.

Where are Collingwood on that list? Oh that's right, they have won 1 flag in 50 years - can you even remember the flag in 1990 - I can't.

Yes we have won only one flag since joining the AFL, but we should have won more, and our current team looks like they will be good enough to win another (at least) in the next few years.

So you're going to start counting flags you should have won as well as the one you actually did win?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You just don't get it do you - I don't care if we don't have as healthy a future as Adelaide, West Coast or Freo (mind you Adelaide is starting to boom, particually the West - due to the Navy Destroyer contract, the mining boom and the new freeway on it's way - so Port are in at least a decent position) - I'd rather win flags.

I have probably seen every Collingwood V Port game either live if in Melb or on TV if at AAMI and I have never once mistaken one player for a player on the opposite team. I don’t have perfect eyesight and we’ve had wet and dry matches. The two jumpers do not clash, particularly with home & away shorts.

I’d be asking at your AGM if you are a member and you really want to know. I reckon Eddie will cover jumper issues again at Collingwood’s.

It’s not 1 in 50 and you bet I can I remember the last one?

Should have? You mean when you couldn’t win finals you should have won flags? Why because that’s the only reason you exist? Jesus if you should have win flags when you couldn’t win a prelim, how many should Collingwood have won when they actually made the GF?

Talk about destroying your own theory. You exist to win flags and fly clichés. Good for you. 2007 is likely to another wasted year of failure and zero achievement then. Personally I am starting to enjoy my team’s improvement which is exceeding my expectations even though I don’t think we are good enough to win the flag this year.

Oh, I know the two guernsies don't actually clash at all, neither front nor back....I just meant by the AFL's decree who clashes and who doesn't.

Frankly they have decree at least a couple of clashes for everyone or else their whole stance falls apart. The reality is many clubs and the AFL want alternate (as opposed to clash) jumpers and those that don’t are being steamrolled regardless of merit. It amazes me how gullible so many people are and how easily they fall in line and follow orders.

Anyway, back to my origonal point, in all seriousness I hope Collingwood wear their normal jumper on the basis that is all they need wear. Personally I would rather their normal jumper was their earlier black on white and they wore that every week forever.

I agree with the bolded quote, I assume this quote is directed at AFL HQ, Vlad and AA, and how they bend over backwards (and forwards) for Collingwood all the time.

That's what happens when you have more than 60% of the clubs in a competition representing one region only.

I suggest Port Power make some long term plans regarding your clubs appeal and crowd numbers, otherwise you're not going to have any premiership's to bring you joy.
So you think that being No.6 on the membership list, and enlisting companies such as BHP-Billiton as major sponsors, is not making progress?

I would suggest that Port Adelaide is not the desired destination for most young talented footballers from Victoria, W.A or the rest of Australia for that matter..
Hilarious statement. Why would any young footballer want to come to Adelaide and fight their way into successful teams, when they can go to sub-standard teams in Victoria, get paid the same and get guaranteed a spot in the 22?

Collingwood havn't been able to attract 3 of the most talented kids in NSW by chance.
Not chance, money. Will they stay? Perhaps.

Don't scoff...Port may be ahead of the Kangaroos in terms of stability and a healthy future. But you're miles behind Adelaide, West Coast and even Fremantle now.
I guess this obsession with money continues. We are setting up a stable and healthy future with the viewpoint to winning premierships, not just making more money.
Having said that, in 5-8 years time, when Collingwood, West Coast, Adelaide have set up their mammoth money-making structures, they will lobby the AFL to remove the salary-cap... and the AFL will bend over again.

Then we will be in trouble.

Get real mate...

You finished 12th last season. That's lower than Richmond....:p

Don't count your 2007 chickens yet.
