Port given permission to wear the stripes

It seems like a fair and reasonable compromise to me.

Black and White is the Collingwood brand in this competition which they had worn well before Port came into the comp. When Port came into the comp they knew that Collingwood wanted to protect the black and white branding as their own and would have to come up with new colours which they did.

Black and White is also Port’s heritage and I think some recognition of that is warranted. Home games during heritage week seems to be a fair thing to me.
I am happy for Port to be at home in every heritage round. We will trade that for the Crows to be at home in Round 22 every year.

You just dont get it do u...u joined the AFL...its an extension of the VFL which was the strongest league in the land.

Any concessions offered to Port Power have been out of the goodness of the AFL and Collingwoods heart.

You dont get to turn up as johnny come lately and expect to tell the existing clubs whats gonna happen champ :thumbsu:

Port Power have agreements with the AFL...dont get dumb and greedy or they'll just replace u with someone else that doesnt whinge so much :D

What is a more different club?

One that changes it's name from South Melbourne Football Club to Sydney Football Club?
One that changes it's city?
One that changes it's home base and entire administration?
One that changes the vast majority of it's supporter base to an entirely different location?

Or one that has done none of these things but simply plays in a different league, and to placate the rantings of another club in that league, been forced to change it's guernsey and emblem?

I ask you, which club has more ties to the past than the other?

Nice little patronising spiel, why let facts get in the way.

Facts arnt something Port fans have ever listened to ...they just want to bring a prior entity into the AFL with all the trimmings and have it suddenly recognised.....like a sad orphan needing a parent.

If u dont like the AFL and how your the Port Power joined in 1996 then it might be a good idea to barrack for the Port Maggies in the SANFL...either that or ask Port Power to leave and join a different league.

The only FACT you lot need to actually embrace is that the only maggies in the AFL are a Melbourne based club. Port Adelaide Magpies are a totally and utterly irrelevant entity....they arnt even worth bothering to talk about unless u are in a SANFL thread.

Port Power....est 1996...etched in teal.

Sydney are just a relocated VFL club....dont make an ass of yaself.

You lot are just desperate for history arnt u ...its almost like you're embarassed to embrace the Port Power.

Stop making it look like u are ashamed of your club.

Just pointing out that we have a very long and successful history, and you well if you count South Melbourne's history, it is just a long history. The Port Adelaide Football as continuous entity since 1870 have a history of success no matter what competition they play in. South Melbourne, Sydney, Bloods, Swans, whatever you claim you are, simply do not. Suck it up, embrace it and look forward to a hopefully more successful next 100 years to your pathetic first 100. You are off to a pretty good start.

When Cwood plays Port at AAMI in a regular season game, what's the story? Has a new agreement been made or an existing one still in place for all clubs that the away team will avoid the clash? IE, would Cwood be wearing predominantly white guernsey with black stripes or will Port be forced to wear clash guernsey at AAMI?

For the one hundred millionth time because there was an agreement on Port’s entry
So . . . my question is still valid.

– and Eddie was not even president believe it or not!
And who mentioned Eddie?

Oh . . . you did.

But the Swans were simply re-located. There's no such thing as the South Melbourne Swans in the current VFL (or any other league) because the orginal Swans are now in Sydney. Do you know what a re-location is? It's like when you move house.

What happened to Port Adelaide is completely different. The Port Adelaide Football Club remain in the SANFL as they always have; yet there is a new entity known as the Port Power Football Club. Different league, different personal, different facilities and dare I say it..different histories.

In regard to your question about which club has greater ties to the past, it's worth noting that Sydney's 2005 premiership win was celebrated as the end of the 'greatest premiership drought in history', 72years I believe.

Port's first premiership in 2004 was celebrated simply as that. Port's first premiership, and very little was made of the clubs SANFL history. Where were all the past Port players on that day? I seem to remember seeing Barry Round and Bob Skilton walking the boundry draped in red + white scarfs in 2005.

By the way, the Swans have more Brownlow Medalists than any other club....How's that for history??

I know the history of the Port Adelaide Magpies means a lot to you....but it's simply irrelevent to everyone else.

You're just jealous coz your only history is tied to a hamburger chain

...and 3 premierships.

I'm quite content with sponsorship coming from a hamburger chain rather than the competition we play in, but each to their own.:thumbsu:

Back on topic, Port should be able to wear whatever the hell they want 11 rounds a year. The jumper doesn't even look like a Collingwood jumper. If it's the pedantic 'black and white are ours' arguement is followed through, then Port really shouldn't be allowed to wear their current jumper (which is predominantly black and white) either.

The amazing thing is that after so many threads some people are still so ignorant.

Your arguement falls down because you don't know the facts.

The Port Adelaide Football club has been a contniual entity since 1870. It changed leagues, guernsey and emblem in 1996 to keep the whinging underachievers named Collingwood happy. Port have always been a successful football club. Eddie is fat. We are better than you. We are top of the ladder.

These are the facts.

I don’t see how..
Is there an agreement in place to make sure Port didn't wear red & black, or black & yellow, or red & blue, or . . . . ???

The AFL decides what teams can wear, even more so with new entrants. They were always going to force Port to change colours when entering the comp. Port's initial submission that forced the SANFL to act even recognised this.

I don't understand why there is an agreement in place for Collingwood other than pandering to their insecurities.

No, you're wrong.

You changed because you're the hick town magpies. And now you whinge constantly about it even though Port Power agreed to wear a different strip to avoid a clash with the real magpies.

These are the facts.

Whatever - sick of the arguement. Lets just stick to football, which of course we are better than you - not bad for a bunch of hick towners, being better than the self proclaimed biggest football club in Australia.
