Dropping Ebert is a ridiculous notion because he is still playing good football, just not great football. And he is not the only one that has slowed down through the second half of the year. Wines, Polec, Broady, Wingard, Monfries and arguably White have also followed Eberts form line, so its a team wide issue, not just an Ebert issue. You dont drop Vice Captains because they arent getting 35 touches a week.

Seems to be the thing to do on here. Over the last two months Ebert, Hartlett, Westhoff, Broady, Pittard, Polec, Monfries, Wingard, Cornes should have all been dropped. Thats nice, who do we bring in?

For all the chicken little posts we lost by less than last years premiers playing at the same venue only a fortnight ago. And they jumped out to an early lead. Yes we had players down and it was extremely dissapointing to lose but we showed for long periods of the game that we are good enough. This is good. Being at the ground this year freo were worried enough not to be talking it up too much. Last year Meh!

I don't like being pessimistic but we pretty much finished up our season yesterday, if we get over Richmond who are up & about probably the form finals side in the 8 we then have to play Sydney & Freo away on the way to the GF.

If we finished top 4 I could see us beating one but we won't beat both, we've got the hardest 5th spot run in the finals I've seen in quite a while & it could've been avoided had we not dropped games to Pies & Dons.

Oh well at least we're there & it'll be great experience for our young side.

Before bagging Impey's inclusion over O'Shea rewind to 2.30 yesterday, and also consider that Ballas is a great forward. He still only had 7 touches in the second half, only one when running loose but still managed to kick 4 goals from those 7 possessions. 3 of the goals were tight set-shots, had he kicked 1.3 we would all have been praising the selection.

But horses for courses and we need O'Shea over Impey against Richmond.

Your right , maybe a few of them should have been dropped , if you aren't going to drop em for bad form and letting the team down , when for gods sake are you going to ever. And as for saying he's the VC so we cant do it , BS that would sent even more of a message that we are dinkum , I remember even the great Greg Phillips getting dropped and had to play ressies because of bad form , and he was skipper ! at the time under jack , everybody within the taem/club got the message , and rightly so . So nup I gotta say Brads form , and especially as a team leader , warranted his demotion weeks ago.

Add in that we missed similar set shots. Those Balla goals during Freo's 9 in a row could have been negated had we taken our opportunities in front of the sticks.

Im not against dropping a leadership player if they are in disastrous form. Ebert isnt in that sort of form.

Sure he covers a lot of ground ,but what does he do when he gets there ? his weak efforts at tackling or non efforts at spoiling really get me and as for creating congestion , well that's a new one ! , didn't know ya get brownie points for just being there ! , how often has his direct opponent outplayed or been of more value to the opposition than he has been for us ?, id say plenty of times.
ebert wasnt bad yesterday, nothing soft about his tackling, he laid 10 tackles yesterday, our other midfielders, boak hartlett gray and wines had 11 between them. sure he missed a couple of targets going forward which isnt good, but he wasnt that bad.

yep. time to recognize that our entire midfield dominance is built on run that is supplied by a couple of mids winning the ball out of the square first.

and if you stop 1 or 2 of our dominant clearance mids then we rely on intercepting attacks.
Been saying that for the second half of the year. Too reliant on 2 midfielders. Once Ebert started playing like a junk yard dog our midfield was in trouble. Boak gets tagged and Gray can't do everything. Wines is tough but there's no depth

Finance...thats all you got out of what me and boydy were talking about...

You must really get confused as to why coaches and players always say "we will just take it one week at a time"...
The main thing I got out of the conversation was that you shouldn't be paid for underperforming, because you can be replaced by someone who can do it better. There is a lot more development and banking on potential growth from one year to the next when it comes to footy players, compared to a 27yo working in finance with his university degree.

I know exactly what one week at a time means, I've said it every single week to my amateur footy side, yourself and boydy were talking more long term than a week by week basis.

No man...we werent ...

How ridiculously handy would a Stefan Martin be right now?

Where the **** did that particular formline come from?!

Was threatening while still at Melbourne. Just needed time.

More often than not, that's the way with ruckmen. Saw some absurdly early calls here to delist Lobbe and Redden while they were still wet behind the ears. Even Giles stepped up and would probably be a Port player still if we had a reserves team back then.

Every now and again I wonder if there is some way the AFL can introduce a spot for clubs where they can park a young ruckman outside the list and let them develop in their own time. And I mean even outside the rookie list.
