Possible line-up Dogs vs Cats

Anyone believe that we need to change the winning teams line-up when we play the Cats next week?

For mine, I think we need to add another tall defender, probably Morgan, to curb the Cats playing Playfair, Ottens and Kingsley. If Mooney comes into their team they may even through King up forward for a few moment here and there to really test us.

Not sure who we would drop but perhaps Bowden needs a spell.
If Hahn is available should we bring him straight in?

We are generally reluctant to change a winning team but I think we need to give it serious consideration.

Does it depend on how much of the game Darcy will play up forward?

If it's most of the game, then maybe Street is a possibility? We looked better last year when Street released Darcy forward, and Minson can't do it all game. Street may also offer another tall target in a pocket when not rucking.

I don't we will need someone like street because i think King might be injured for the clash against us. He didn't play against Port.

If Hahn is fit you would think he would come in the side but for who?
I don't think it should be Bowden because we need mid talls for this match. I think the replacement could be either Boyd or B Murphy.

I dont think Murphy should be dropped he was great last game, read the packs really well and took some strong marks up forward. Bowden doesnt seem like he is getting much playing time and is really only useful up forward so Id drop him first, but he didnt play too badly last weekend.

I think its time to give Bowden a rest and build some confidence, I'd bring in Walsh in place. Other change would be Hahn for Brad Murphy. Although Murphs game was servicable he also made a couple of mistakes which were on the lazy and soft side, don't think he should keep Hahn out (and would hate to see Boyd made the sacrificial lamb).

Tough call on Brad Murphy, I think he has something unique to offer in terms of skill and goal sense. Yes he made a couple of errors but so did many others.
I would like to see Walsh in as a genuine tall target, and if Hahn is to come back I would look at someone like Eagleton to make way for him. Its a tough call but if we are going to use this year as a development year I think we can only play one of Smith or Eagleton, to get games into the Brad Murphy typye players.
What do others think?

Re: Bowden and the Eagle

Bowden and eagleton, for Morgan and Hahn.

We still have a few who have a look or take a short step, and they are
Smith, Eagleton, Mcmahon, Bowden, Power.
You can have a couple of the above in your side but not all.

I am a bit harsh on SMITHY he has been a great player, BUT he does at times take a short step or not block the run of a leading foward.

Would not make too many changes to the line-up. If Hahn is right I would bring him and would again probably make Boyd the sacrificial lamb. I think Boyd at the moment is a good player without a position. Down back McMahon, Hargraves and Gilbee have all stepped up and pushed him aside. in the midfield Morris has taken his possible run with role away and up forward he is competing with Murphy, Johnno and Smith.

Its debateable whether you drop Bowden. I am a fan so I admit to being slightly biased and prefer him in the team, especially if you have Darcy and Grant up forward. His game on Saturday night saw him receive limited game time, but he did alright with the opportunities he had. If you were to drop him I would be bringing in Walsh, Skipper or Morgan......not Street. Biggest issue with Street is that he is a liabilty around the ground. Even up forward he struggles once the ball gets below waist height.

One positive with having Street in the team, would be to stand in the goalsquare when Darce is playing in the ruck, therefore always having the long bomb option knowing we are a chance rather than having the ball come straight out of our forward line, plus wouldn't it be good if Street could bag a few goals against his old club.

Plus this option also drags one of their talls away from their forward line.

I think Street should replace Bowden this week, Murphy and Boyd have done enough so if Mitch is fit he might just have to wait his turn. As was said before Street provides a contest when Darcy is in the ruck, i would even throw them both down there for 10 minutes here and there while Minson is in the ruck.

On last week's form, don't think anyone needs to be dropped. Boydy was on for 57 mins for 9 possies and Bowdo 61 for 7 inc 1 goal 1. I'm a Mitch fan but may be best to reward the guys' efforts by keeping an unchanged lineup. if anything as pointed out we could do with an extra tall but the candidates have poor track record in the firsts or none on Walshy's case.

Hahn if fit is a must inclusion against a side sometimes renowned for being a bit soft under pressure (although this Geelong side is much better than previous). Playing at an outdoor venue meaning the ball may be on the ground more often means that Mitch's hardness at the footy is needed probably at the expence of Boyd (very similar type of player).

Geelong have a lot of bigger bodied midfielders at the moment with Ling, Enright etc. Mitch's physical presence would be valuable IMO.

who to take ottens? hes not real quick, so plan A might be rawlings. plan B harris

who to take jnr? might be a job for morris?

ling v cross is a good matchup. ling has the weight advantage, but cross can go with him all day, perhaps tag team him with cross and hahn for a really tough afternoon.

hargeave v kingsley

Id have one of darce or grant in the goal square at all times.

chapman always does well against us. maybe play smith or murph on him.

geelong seems to have a weakness against small forwards. browneye often had a day out against them. good be a case to play faulkner or ray.

not sure, depends how Geelong line up. Someone said King might not play. To be honest I havent seen a Geelong game this year.

King is fine to play. He could have played last week but given his numerous injuries they gave him a week off.

We will also be strengthened greatly by the return of our most talented forward, Dog Johnson, and our most versatile bigman Cameron Mooney will also come back.

Our team will be much stronger (and much more versatile) than the team that went to Adelaide and beat Port.

Who in turn would have been much stronger and more versatile had they not been missing half of their premiership side.

Last year we showed the football world we were a tough, hard team. We took it up to the toughest teams in the league and didn't back down.

We may or may not play well, but if you're expecting softness from us this weekend you're in for a shock.

Yes.

But you've got me beat as to what relevance that has to anything i typed or this weekends match.
