Cant be bothered reading through the whole thread, and I know the answer lies within somewhere.

But:

1. Why do Richmond supporters constantly need to justify their membership tally with "If" we were successful etc etc we would have so many more members (the same can be said about most teams).

Their membership tally is what it is. Currently 35K. When they are successful they can boast about having 50K members, however at the moment they are miles behind Collingwood and Hawthorn.

2. Why do Richmond supporters count ticketed & non-ticketed in their final tally?

Non ticketed isn't a real membership bro, it's kind of like donating to the club and you get some goodies for it.

By your logic, if Richmond and Hawthorn both had woeful seasons then Hawthorn's membership would plummet and Richmond's would stay high...

In 2004 Richmond finished last and Hawthorn second last.
In 2005 Richmond had 28029 members and Hawthorn 29261.

Your forgetting richmond 2002, 2003, 2004 Richmond didnt place higher then 13th  We also Averaged more then you in crowds 2005, roughly 100 000 more through our gates that season.

Also Averaged more then you in 2008 in regular season crowds in your premiership year!. More through the gates..

Remember from 2002 onwards Richmond the worst performing side of the decade has been in the Top 6 every year for regular season crowds.

No other teams besides the big 4 have been able to do that. Carlton only just scraped in as well.

Once Richmond shows some success stastically they should draw even bigger crowds, and bigger memberships. The sleeping dragon wakes.. i hope!

I'm not forgetting anything, I'm just stating facts, and I'm talking about memberships.
Oh, and Hawthorn didn't make the finals in any of those seasons either.

Why would crowds be up during a premiership season?

Slightly off topic but the EFC membership Dept is a joke. A week out from the first bounce and I still havent received my membership which is direct debited and automatically renewed. Havent found out my reserve seat numbers for home and away games and the department is basically uncontactable. There would be thousands of members still yet to receive their packs. The department apparently only has five staff employed to process all memberships. Certainly not good enough.

I feel your pain mate. Still waiting on my Family reserved seat package. Already paid for it. Contacted my club ....told "Membership dept is flooded and always experiences a mass surge around this time each year" :(

Lucky its a Richmond home game Thursday, as i wouldn't be able to scan in or know where my seats are.

I am tired of Richmond supporters continually using the same line of argument all the time. "Imagine if Richmond had some success".

Imagine if the Bombers had won a few more flags then we would be number one.

Fact of the matter is Richmond were in the big 4 in the old days but are no longer the powerful club they once were. No "ifs" and "buts".

Collingwood > Essendon > Carlton >> (Hawthorn, Richmond, Geelong) >>>> St. Kilda > Bulldogs > Melbourne >> North Melbourne.

The bombers won one a few years ago. They've only missed out on the 8 about 3 or 4 times since 2002. Why should their fans abandon them?. Any club down for 10 years will have their crowds drop off so you don't measure Big 4 on current form you measure it if all clubs are doing the same on the field

Why are Richmond fans so obsessed by crowds and being part of the big 4 and how big they would be if they ever made finals. I don't hear Carlton/Collingwood/Essendon talking about how big they are or how big they could be, they instead focus on how they can become successful on field.

This is simply the worst topic/thread ever made!
Just such a massive dick measuring contest.
I really dont understand the hype surrounding it?

Every club varies in size, North Melbourne, Melbourne, St Kilda, Port Adelaide and Bulldogs are small clubs with limited supporter bases.

All im concerned about off field, is the club's ability to make a profit....
Now i havent got the figures infront of me, but aslong as North continue to earn more than they spend, that is fine by me.

Its almost as if people of BigFooty are more concerned about winning the membership tally than winning a Premiership FFS.

I know what i'd prefer!
Just my 2c.

We have almost hit 3rd on the membership ladder of the 12 clubs who have provided a figure. We started the new year in about 10th spot of the 12 teams

How can you be 3rd on the membership table when you only have about 27,000 or 28,000 ticketed members?

Strange...seems like you guys have trouble counting.
