I loved the women's AFL last night. Are there any plans for us to field a team in the next few years?
Doubtful. I think the club's focus will be our new training facilities, wherever they may be. We may not have the coin for a women's team until we get that sorted out and complete.

No. All club had the opportunity to put in proposals for a team last year, and we didn't.

Strikes me as an opportunity gone begging.

"the Club is unable to provide the neccessary infrastructure to support an elite women's team"
"The analysis identified significant challenges, most notably an absence of adequate training facilities."
A Swans women’s team remains a pillar of our long-term strategy and we hope to be in a position to tender for the next round of licences.

Afl made gws do it', was at a seminar with stephen doyle who now is in accounts at gws
They were pissed off, hard to fund it all, doesnt make any money etc, clubs were largely not keen

Smart decision by the swans, right now its just throwing money down a drain and taking resources from the clun

It may be a smart financial decision but if you're keen to grow the club with the next generation then I think it needs to be a priority over the next few years. My 5 yr old daughter was super excited to watch the girls play - but her first question was where are the swannie girls? I'll stay a loyal swan despite living in GWS territory, having joined during the hard years, but my daughter - if the people she looks up to emulating or simply admiring are all giants.....

Long term if it survives you can enter more clubs

100% agree with this. I would think that a Swans ladies team would get a much bigger following than GWS. It may be a smart financial decision in the short term but judging by how this weekend's gone so far it could be a great opportunity missed.

Ladies and gentlemen, after much soul searching in the summer I wasn't sure when I would be able to face up to another season but after watching AFLW this past weekend I am now officially keen as mustard for season 2017 to kick off and for Round 2 to come around so that we can take the Dogs down a peg or two.

Anyways, the reason I am here (and frankly I have no idea if this is the right place to do this but a thread with the word random in it was enough to convince me otherwise) is to gauge who we think is in our best 22 for Round 1 before we play in the JLT, given injuries etc.

All of your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Just like we showed Hawthorn first meeting at the "G" after the 2014 drubbing.
Somehow it felt a little hollow that night, even though we beat them.

I couldn't care less if we won or lost against the pricks as we should have "hammered" their players illegally all day on GF day, to the point some of their key players couldn't take the field adequately after any 'collision'!
It was the GF after all & we still should have had the Hawthorn beating fresh in our minds. It is the one thing I take from that game. We have some absolutely tough players no doubt, but what we haven't had since Hall & then Mummy left, is an intimidating tough player that may or may not belt the living shit out of any opponent that gets in his way, placing doubt in their minds when this player is around!

We have NO ONE on our list that has a dirty bone in their body!
Tough?
Most certainly!
Intimidating?
Not for 3 years now!
We only need one!

In: Mongrel
Out: No D/H policy

I should add, even Boyd pushed us around!
As soft as he is!
He wasn't soft at all - turned up when it mattered, took key contested marks at crucial times, imposed himself physically on the contest against much older players.

Kind of an anti-Rohan on the day

Yeah! That's actually what I was trying to say. Soft all career thus far, until it mattered on GF day.
Rohan is just too nice!

I like Rohan but it's hard to argue with you both.

Everyone likes flash over substance. Lewis Jetta's 2012 grand final still gets talked about based on a run and a few long kicks, Ryan O'Keefe fought his guts out all day against some of the hardest guys in the league and the only time I hear it mentioned is when people say Hannebery deserved the Norm over him (FFS). I still maintain our midfield went downhill the instant he left, because now Kennedy has to do it on his own.

Yeah spot on!
Goodes was the last of the 'Bloods'! Jude & ROK retiring has left a hole but Josh Kennedy went a long way to begin filling the void with his GF performance, along with Hanners.
They definitely need some help & I can see Heeney being the next one capable of putting in some big efforts when the team/club needs him to. A young group last year, who have hopefully learned what is required from down deep when the crunch comes.

Bring ROK back to the club alongside Kirky in the coaches box!

Hmm yes that hardness is one thing we haven't replaced since our most recent success.
