So are the Swans mentally ****ed from the Grand Final humiliation?

Yep theres been injuries especially any defender with Height,

So far we won

Suns on the Gold Coast- pretty good win, kept running looked pretty sharp and they do play us well
flogged the Hawks at home- they are junk
Ran over Richmond - we did have a few out but as did they, they also look junk

The losses fit into 2 broad categories

Floggings
Dees- went from 6 points to 50 in 30 minutes of footy
Cats shat on us all day

and pissed away close lead under pressure
Port- 2
Gws -1

The losses all do seem to come down to collapaing under close pressure or just being outworked and folding, not that there are great losses either, but no sorta back and forth they just beat us, yes two were close but we gave up winning positions,I mean Port we led most of the game

are we just down on form/not that good ? had a bad run

or did the grand final have an impact still being felt?

Injuries and form are hurting at the moment.

It’s the umps.

😏

How did threepeat Brisbane get SO good?

How did they assemble such a crack squad in what is not generally regarded as one of the epicentres of Aussie Rules?

Three premierships (and four grand finals) in a row! That is phenomenal.

And (tinfoil hat on here, feel free to ignore this part and just discuss how they built such a winning ethic) did Brisbane’s incredible success, and the rise of Eddie McGuire and the rise of social media, mean that there was never going to be a chance of another non-Vic club rising to that level?

Good talent spotting. Some concession no more than past vic premiers
luck

I mean they got what Johnson from the merger?
Brown father son from the merger,
Voss because of queensland?
scott by nabbing buckley from memory

Lynch under the short lived concession for shit clubs to get an uncontracted player IIRC we got that too, as did the tigers, fitzroy had been too good lol, but think that's how he went, Dunstall said no, did we get like Kappler? maybe im mixing stories. Either way he got chronic fatigue, barely played so they stayed average and he improved and was almost a cherry on top.

I mean the mids were elite but I just remember they had size, big backmen, Leppitsch, Michael etc

also changed coaches !!

plus maybe the UV drips and playing the pies twice lol

Anyone seen this.
I've been saying it for a few years, even when convincingly winning games.
I have been covering my eyes when watching throw ins & ball ups around our opposition's goals for a number of years now.
We have a flaw in defensive development at our club, since we decided to improve our attacking play.

Against GWS again a few years ago, I remember Sam Reid tapping down to Josh Kelly whoi wasn't being watched for a similar match winning goal.
We suck at it. The worst team at it & here is the statistics along with some footage to prove it.

I think even the staunchest of defenders of the decision to move George Hewett on could concede that he was a master at this very thing, which we now lack.

He was a gem. One of our most underrated of the past decade.

Also a fair callout for Chad. I love him but plays his hardest in one direction.

We really need to address our stoppages. Centre clerances we're doing fine but around the ground we don't hold our own. Not surprising it damages us in our defensive 50

My query would be why were the options to stop Greene at that stoppage Florent, Warner and Campbell. I rate them all but I wouldn't trust any of them to stop an opponent at a stoppage. Rowbottom's not great at the defensive mid thing but he is still the one player on the ground we needed at that stoppage and instead he was on the bench. Mills and Parker were nowhere near it.

Just a horrible overlapping of undesirable circumstances.

Agree on Hewett.

Makes you yearn for the days of JPK. There was nothing more reliable than him wrapping an opponent in an inescapable bearhug the moment they took possession at a stoppage.

or Clegg taking 32 Marks at chb and being impassable or having Mopsy outplaying Greene.

At Carlton Hewett is one of 6 midfield players, most of whom have to be watched closely. It's perfect for him because he can hunt the opposition best mid who often don't respect their opponent.
& then be a free midfielder the other way when they win the ball.
At the Swans he'd be tagged. We are shat ATM.

Just wanted to talk a bit about accuracy.

Average accuracy for all teams this year is 53%

Average accuracy for teams vs us is 58%. Doesn't sound like much, BUT:

Average accuracy for teams vs us (our win) is 43%

Average accuracy for teams vs us (our loss) is 66%.

Now I have no idea what this means, are we giving up really easy set shots, lack of pressure, allowing teams to get confidence?

I will say though that our percentage is probably a tad lower than it should be, so far though only one game has been decided through accuracy.

PSA for any Swans fans freaking out that we are going to lose Robbie Fox to the Tasmanian team.

He will be 35 when the Tasmanian team enters the league.

We should be so lucky if he's still playing good enough footy that we mourn his departure to Tasmania.

By the time he has 35 maybe he will have enough clout to be a Luke Power or Chad Cornes type who plays one year then goes into coaching the club.

That's a fun memory game thinking back to the Suns and Giants and the initial veteran recruits.
