Houli was such a great player and person.

Exactly who u would want around the club and was always jealous watching him at his best that he wasn’t at port.

Great player and career

Was a terrible time watching him dominate the VFL at Essendon only for Knights to never give him a reasonable chance at AFL level.

"Don't worry about the mule, just load the damn wagon."

Many a wagon loaded in Bachar Houli's career.

Didn't focus on himself.
Just focused on others.

Shaun Burgoyne has joined the party and retiring too.

Could make a very good team from all the retirees this year.

Amazing career and he truely was an excellent player

How about Dusty?

3 flags, 3 x NSM, 1 x Brownlow. What's left for him? His long term health is more important and he might go home to his dad. I get the feeling footy isn't the be all and end all for him.

Millions and millions of dollars will probably inspire him to keep playing

The world works in mysterious ways. How would you feel all worked up to go door-knocking to spread the word and up pops lockdowns and ends the dream
Having inside knowledge of his cult I doubt they’d have ‘Brother’ Rance out on the ministry work these days due to his high public profile but you never know.

He’s likely a congregational elder by now and handles more in-house stuff like private Bible studies, Sunday meetings, convention preparation and overseeing the ministerial service.

Can be for a sleazy few, but for all of religion's issues, most people who make it a vocation earn far less than they would otherwise.

Just a few?

It's an ok list of retirees. If all players were mid career that team would be in the mix for finals. However, plenty of retiree years have been much stronger than that though. I just picked a random year that I thought I remembered was decent, for comparison:

2016:

FB: C.Enright, D.Merrett, T.Richards
HB: N. Malceski S. Fisher, J.Adcock
C: A.Cooney, D.Swan, J.Kelly
HF: B. Harvey, M.Pavlich, J.Bartel
FF: C. Dawes, D.Petrie, B.McGlynn
R: M. Jamar, M. Barlow, N. Dal Santo
I/C: R.Crowley, W.Minson, A.Walker, N. van Berlo

Plenty of decent players who were not big names I left out too like J.Patfull (2xB&F), A.Carlisle, H. Lumumba (AA), M.Clark, etc.

That side would beat this years list of retirees by 10-15 goals IMO (and their is probably other years similar)

Ha ha, fair enough.

I grew up in a (non Catholic) Christian household (but am no longer religious). Many of my childhood friends have grown up to be pastors, missionaries, etc. In that world, you have some well publicised 'mega church' leaders in the south of the US who make big money (tax free), a few tele-evangelists (yuck) and a handful of large churches in Australia whose leaders would make good money.

The vast, vast majority though are leaders (and 'elders') of small to medium size churches who make a smaller than average wage but are expected to do many extra hours of volunteer work, visiting hospitals, doing funerals, weddings, leading bible studies, visiting the elderly, community work, etc. There's usually 1 (maybe 2) paid positions and every else volunteers cos that is what God would want them to do. Even if churches make more money than a very basic wage, the congregation expects that to go into the community development, donations, 'missions' or improving the church premises itself.

Then you've got 'missionaries' overseas who usually get some donations that are ok for the first year or two but then they usually get forgotten about for the next 10-15 years (in favour of someone else, somewhere else), barely scraping by an getting donated used clothes and old toys at Christmas, etc. I have one friend who gets donated used teabags so they can brew a second cup of tea out of the same bag (he throws them away of course).

Also, my father's side is Jewish and I have some close Buddhist friends and at least in Australia, rabbis and monks are generally struggling financially (though some rabbis do very well).

I just like how the presentation of the text here is as much of a mess as the actual text. That's commitment.

Still would expect the likes of Mumford, stef Martin, Birchall, zaharakis, Frawley, Nate Jones to announce retirement in the next few weeks

Hartlett from port and Phil Davis maybe too

any pettiness, continue biting into the topic my friend its well worth the effort, glossa and syntax is discussion for another time
