Potential Trade Targets at the End of 2010

Always had a soft spot for the Roos because my Dad played for them, so I always keep an eye open and see what's happening down at the club.

They and the Bulldogs (grew up out west, my mother was a teacher who helped establish the care for kids program the Dogs made where they sent players to primary schools) are really the two teams I get behind other than my own. I watch almost every game that they play when I can.

It is with some knowledge of the Kangaroos that I say this -- if Hansen were playing for Essendon or Collingwood (one of the glamour Melbourne based sides) then the AFL, its media and therefore most of its fans would have absolute raging hard ons, rather than the current "We dont really hear about him, he's underwhelming, wasn't in the side much (injured, but again it wasn't much discussed), not living up to the hype" hogwash.

For the Carlton fans -- it's a similar but without the injuries situation for Kreuzer; because we're the hated by the media side in Melbourne (for some reason St Kilda's catching us at the moment) and Kreuze was the number one pick and despite how much we know he's developed he gets the knocks from opposition fans because "He was the number one pick in the draft and he's not the best big man in the competition already therefore the pick was an epic fail!".

Hansen's fine. Kreuzer's better than fine. Just because neither plays for a much loved by the media AFL team doesn't mean that they're flops. Both are sensational young players who have more than come along.

Appears as though Carlton has a phenomenal amount of height in its backline. We even have a midfielder turned sensational defender in Jordan Russell. We also have Army and a couple of others filling the gaps.

Lets not go nuts.

He's simply a defender - he's nothing to warrant the 'sensational' tag.

Give the guy a chance -- he was brilliant the last month of the season. Didn't lose once to any opponent and that includes the Adelaide game where we coped a belting.

Cleaned up Stevie J injured or not, was superb in Port Adelaide and has done his job well ever since.

I think if it weren't for the over the top hatred filled grudge that many Carlton fans have for him he'd be one of our more favored players.

Besides, he's one of the few players that we have that the media seems to really have the time of day for and we can do with as much of that as we can get!

I'm all for Russ and I'm probably more happy than most that he's actually found a position where he can contribute ..

but as you said - he was brilliant over July/August, I don't think that warrants the sensational tag, personal opinion though.

okay, let me redo that sentence.

Since being given his role in the backline Jordan Russell's form has been sensational and I see no reason why that will not continue.

Better?

Honestly, what I'd like at Carlton in next years trade period is something many of you will question.

Appears as though Carlton has a phenomenal amount of height in its backline. We even have a midfielder turned sensational defender in Jordan Russell. We also have Army and a couple of others filling the gaps.

However, what I don't see on our list is the permanent mid-sized defender whose the mainstay down the defensive end and helps the likes of Jamo, Waite, Bower and T-Bird. I'm talking about someone who has the ability to play the role Andrew McKay did in our last premiership team.

That's what I'd like to see Carlton go out and target. A well-rounded, highly skilled permanent backman who has a decent head on their shoulders and can lead the team from the back while the talls play their role.

I truly don't believe we have that glue mid-defender yet. As good as Jordan is, his around the ground versatility will stop him from being employed in that role. If someone gets hurt in the midfield or on the half forward line, Russell will become the guy that the coach turns to and says "You go play that role, I believe in you."

Army and the others are the animal the backline needs. Not the leader type. Not Andrew McKay.

That's all that we need. Our height is fine, our midfield is amazing. Get that one key link and we're premiership material.

I think Browne will be this player, looks to be having a good pre season and has courage in spades.

Davies could be this type of player, have to wait and see I guess.

Good post. I watched some of the things Kreuzer did last year and in his debut and was more than impressed. Bloke will be a very, very good player for a long time to come and a genuine match winner, has that ability to do it when needed.

As regards North, can you imagine if Matt Campbell and Lindsay Thomas played for Essendon - it would be 'indigenous magic' crap on the front pages.

And if Ziebell was at Collingwod, Lord preserve us.

At times Campbell is a very dangerous player. I think he has the potential to be as good or better than Cyril Rioli. Again, consistency is the key.
Glad we never ended up with Daniel Wells though...;-P

Davies

Pav, Roughie, Jessie White or any star FF/CHF.

If we got a genuine star key forward to go with Hendo and Waite we could have the best Forward line and midfield in 2011.

Any deal for a superstar would have to start with us giving up a Hampson or a Walker.

Whats this crap about Hansen being no good. He is a quality player already, and is de exactly how the roos would like him too. He has shown alot more than Henderson, and we rave on about him. Hansen will be a gun.

..plus you'd have all Essendon posters on Big Footy talking up what gun players they are.

As I have posted before on BF - Essendons list-building Methodology:

1. Recruit average player.
2. Get 40,000 Essendon supporters to overrate players ability on Big Footy.

Result: 40,000 Essendon supporters believing they have a super list of players.

potenial? cyril has more potential in his left nut.

Reckon Cyril has more versatility and will be a better player but Campbell, when fit, is a very, very damaging player.

Good chatting with you lot bluebaggers.

Will be back come at proper trade time when the strange and fanciful annual rumour about North making a play for Marc Murphy resurfaces.
