How are the teams split?

Fairly evenly, though main forwards on the blue team. So Hawkins, harry, Black, Menz all on same team.

On ballers appear even, Danger and Selwood on opposing teams.

Though Cocky, Mots, 2E on same side (blue)

Are either of Stanley or Blitz participating?

How's Motlop going? Does he look to have regained his speed?

Not many people talking about Murdoch, he has the pace, and nice left foot, but is it a make or break season for him?

I just think its confidence that he needs, in term of his attributes and skills, he could be as good as Isaac Smith.

Big call.

Agree with others. I just cannot see him making it - but would be absolutely wrapped if did make it with us. A big bonus - because he does have some really good attributes. But he just does not get the ball often enough for me.

I think Menzel and McCarthy might keep improving. And they are the sort of players that seem to have overtaken Murdoch. Then you have Cockatoo and Lang knocking on the door. They seem to have the edge over Murdoch right now. But if he plays 5-6 really good VFL games in a row GFC will be forced to bring him back for another, and maybe last, senior stint (4-5 games).

Put bluntly I do not see him in the starting 22 Round 1 - and that tells me he has been over taken by players who have had less games. Maybe even Cowan is ahead of him given Cowan played in the finals and Murdoch did not.

Both playing normally with no restrictions.

Mots great off the ball, linked really well. Ran a lot.

As far as Menzel goes this is really the year. If he gets thru relatively unscathed then I think we, and he, will reset and start taking his inclusion in the senior team as expected and will happen consistently. So far the signs are ok. Last season was always going to be about match fitness and touch - and he showed enough for me to have optimism for this season if he stays fit.

How did Harry fare up forward? And who did he play on?

Lonners at times, Hendo mostly. Didn't see much early. The forward thrusts seem to mostly look for an option even though the player could have kicked for goal.

So forward entry appeared congested early.

It opened up when they switched ends. Black, Harry got away a bit. Stanley also.

Harry competed well, got his hands on it more as match play went on.

Duncan, Mots, and especially Cocky doing a lot of end to end running. Lang looked in good touch. Guthrie also.

Hawk has slimmed down a bit, looks more toned. Had quite a few touches and marks in scoring range.

Looked good today. Took a couple of nice grabs, set up Hawk and Stanley for a goal. A couple of times got down low and over the footy, with someone on him.

He looks fit. So here's hoping

Were the younger recruits there too. i.e Esava, Parfitt, Narkle et. al.
I had some things to do this morning and completely forgot about the family day.

I had some things to do this morning and completely forgot about the family day.

Narkle running laps during match play. Esava played, hit packs well. Nearly took a fine grab in first half, then ran laps and sat out last half.

Parfitt played and for what I saw, seemed to find good places, ran lines well and had good disposal.

Stewart is ready. Body is solid and he's a good find. Will play this year.

And our returning recruit in Thurlow got on it a fair bit. Looks very fit. Saw a fair few kicks, only one went slightly over head of intended target.

Black seemed to struggle early, but found good spot ups later. Energetic. Set up a goal in second half. Took about 4-5 marks in second stint.

Anything on Guthrie Jr

Yep, he really stands out (skinny and white- needs a sun tan). Skinny kid, but isn't afraid to get in the kitchen. Got some possessions around the centre of the ground, good hands.

Thanks for the updates on the pre-season.

I like your confidence in Stewart - but like Menegola he comes with a mature body and some decent footy experience. I have not been thinking about him but given his size he would need take Kolo or Thurlow's position in the back 6. So unless he forces his way into the team or Thurlow starts in the VFL - it is hard to see him getting early games. But I am excited that you could see him in the seniors this season.

As for your comments re Thurlow - good news indeed. Also maybe Parfitt and Black are outside chances to play seniors this season - which is good for our depth, pressure on the best 22 and for our VFL side.

Maybe things are in a bit better shape than I thought. Early wins will be very useful with so many clubs looking on the improve with few look like going the other way. That means it will be a real *hit fight just to make the 8 let alone the TOP 4. And that would also indicate percentage will likely play a significant part in how things end up.
