Richmond have been very ordinary for 3 years now and Dow and other youngsters have been unable to force their way into the senior side. It is more likely that most of our juniors are a bust. The Dow love is over the top. When playing seniors he was RS other than a couple of cameo performances late in the season. He’s not quick, can’t kick and I just can’t see what the hype on him is. He’ll get his chance but I would not be hanging our hopes on him. If McAuliffe is showing some early form I’d go with him over Dow. Most top midfielders show early signs and Dow hasn’t.MY point is that most of our juniors incl Dow have been way under exposed due to the success we’ve had , hopefully that’s the first thing that changes under new stewardship
In 2014 Prestia would have been No2 midfielder behind Abblet, He got to be No1 kick chaser in a hopeless side because they didn't have anyone else who was anywhere near good enough. I doubt his disposal count has been anywhere near that level since he joined the tigers.
Dow has always had to play a secondary role to our other mids. If he gets a chance this year I think you will find his stats will improve.
In fairness prestia wasnt trying to break into a triple premiership midfield, instead was playing his trade with a bunch of s**t fighters . Dow would have played 2-3 x as many games if he were at GC in that sorry era
Remember early days Shedda couldn't kick, he was a complete butcher. Dow's kicking will improve like Sheddas once he has the fitness and composure to run out games.Reminds me so much of Shedda. Needs a bit more time to prove himself because unlike Shedda, he has been developing and struggling to get senior experience after his senior teammates won 3 flags
He was always returning to Melbourne at some pointThere is no statement that he left GWS due to playing forward is there? Pure speculation.

Exactly. He was always returning to Melbourne at some point
Guy who I work with has a son who played with him at Sandringham and still mates with him now
I don't think anyone is saying that Dow is as good as Prestia. What I and other are pointing out is that comparing Dow to Prestia is unfair as their circumstances have been completely different. Also, I hate stats mainly because they favour the kick chasers. I would love to see the comparison between Dusty and Sam Walsh (Blues). Statistically I suspect that Walsh would have better numbers but I know who I would choose first.Prestia was a gun from Day 1, this comparison and excuse is laughable and I am a Dow fan.
No he wouldn't have, hasnt been able to stay on the park and they had kids drafted earlier and with far more talent.
Again I have to disagree with Dow. He is just not that quick. He is average in pace and I question lack of endurance. Not saying he cant improve but I dont think his top speed will improve.Taranto can run all day both ways, inside and out. Yes slowish but always moving. Hopper I think will have a bit more zip than last year because he has a full preseason for the first time in a while. Prestia is the mystery, which one plays the old or new Prestia. The new is nowhere near the old, and slower. He had great zip around the ball at his peak. I don't think we can afford to play an average Prestia. But was high up in our 2km time trial, which suggests he has had a good preseason. They will 'manage' him from here on so let's hope the old Prestia comes back this season.
Dow is not slow at all, in fact due to his agility he can really spread away from the pack with good speed for short distances. That is what we need in there, and that is what many really good mids do. There aren't many Judd's and Dangerfield's out there who do it all at speed. Bolton and Dusty have plenty of zip as well, but more importantly they win a lot of clearances, as does Dow. This is where we have been weak. We have a strong midfield now (on paper) getting the ball, and need more speed and natural footballers on the outside. This is where we have been quite weak.
Mac and Pickett are good footballers but do not get much possession, and not a lot of breakaway possession. Banks, Sonsie, Brown, Smith, Clarke, MaAulife are pacy players who will get games this year possibly replacing them and add run and carry. Graham, Rioli, Short, Ross, Baker etc are also runners.
We looked static and very risk averse last year, far from our good years. Hopefully a bit of that comes back and makes us a bit more dynamic. We should also have far more structure up forward. When the ball comes out as easily as it did last year, every side would looks slow.
It was one of the selling points we pitched. More midfield time. There is no statement that he left GWS due to playing forward is there? Pure speculation.
Off topic but on fox footy the other day they had a Dusty special showing a mini of the r17 2016 match V Essendon but the player that stood out was Ben Griffiths. He had 18 disposals, 12 marks (5 contested), 3 goals and 1 goal assist. What could have beenProbably won’t happen but I was watching a 2016 replay that was on fox footy the other day (round 17) and seeing Dusty spend some time off the back of the square was pretty sweet
Still managed to kick a couple of goals as well

Griffo absolutely tore that game apart, such a shame the concussions got to him and he left to strike it rich in the USA had the tools to be one of the top tier forwards in the comp and could take a hanger as good as Jack
Would laugh if our B side mids smash our A side mids.reckon Richmond will win
