looked him up on google. playes for Perth Demons

No player profiles on their website. Read a few match reports and he was praised often for his willingness to get between his man and the ball and competetive spirit. Was also mentioned on the Freo board as a preferred rookie. Seems to be a tough defender type. Oh well I guess we'll find out.

I found this on the wafl website and looked up the Perth Demons. Although the Demons didnt have a great year, it seems Perkins was a stand out for most of the year. From rounds one onwards he averages 20+ possies. He sounds great!

In the space of three games, Perth has seen its percentage drop by a massive 20% and has been beaten by an average margin of 88 points.

Hardly the traits of a team contending for a finals birth.

The game against West Perth was almost over at half time when West Perth kicked 7 goals in the second term to have a six goal lead at the main break. Perth were inaccurate in the second term missing a number of easy shots. Debutant Lance Franklin took some excellent marks but spoilt the good work by kicking a couple of points.

Despite the coach Stan Magro demanding a do or die effort in the third term, the Demons were completely outplayed again. Perth were looking down the barrel at a defeat in the 70-80 point region but managed to outscore the Falcons by 2 goals in the last quarter. Whilst this on the surface helped restore some pride, in reality it simply made some of the Perth players stats more impressive.

The forward line was relatively ineffective as were the midfield, and one must spare a thought for the backline who saw the opposition streaming forward time and time again.

Special mention must be made of JUSTIN PERKINS who was simply outstanding against all odds. Justin Sprigg started the game wonderfully and tried hard all day. Chad O’Sullivan tried hard as did Andrew Smith and Richard Kelly (who is obviously hampered by injury - as evidenced by the fact that for the first time in his career we witnessed “Kells” caught holding the ball!). Michael Johnson was valiant and in trying to prop up the completely out of form forward line. Chris Bossong was against amongst the best but his great game was marred by some horrendous errors which gave away a couple of goals.

To next week.

Perkins was also named one of the best throughout the year and is definately a backman:
"Mention must be made of Justin Perkins who was a tower of strength in the backline" and "repelled many advances from the backline"

Inside Football's write up of Scott McMahon...

Medium Defender. DoB: 2/6/86 Ht: 184cm Wt: 83kg
"He's a very athletic player with a great leap who knows how to read the play. He's a halfback/back pocket type player. Started the year in the U19s and came back after playing for SA at the national carnival and finished the year off in the reserves. Played mostly in defence and a bit on the ball during the finals for our reserves side." Woodville-West Torrens development manager, Kym Ireland.

Good luck to Thewlis, I think we would have taken him back if he was still available in the later rounds of the draft. He can play back, forward or in the midfield, and has a strong body ready to play in the seniors.

Interesting that we have gone for more defenders - Gibson, McMahon & Perkins - after drafting 2 in the ND: Schwarze & Pratt. Maybe Laids thinks we have some serious deficiencies there.

Also interesting to note that the recruiting team have selected another WAFL defender in Perkins about the same age Le Cras was drafted, 21.

Again, JYD has shown a preference/ willingness to draft kids with a bit more maturity. Before 2005 kicks off we'll have Thompson at 27, Picioane 24, Gibson 21, Thewlis 20, Perkins 21, Schwarze 21 & Pratt 21. Plus three 18-year-olds in Jesse Smith, Brad Moran & Scott McMahon.

Lots of new faces (10 in fact), I can't wait to hear some reports of these guys!

Well, the rookies aren't officially part of our list but I won't be surprised if two of them are on our list in 2006.

I think I would be.

If 2 of them are promoted we would need a few other players to retire. Would depend what sort of season Arch, Colbert and Sav have to fit all them in.

We have had reasonable luck with our rookies but never really found a Gem. found a few roughies in Baird and Firrito but never really found a superstar (as you would expect).

I think we have had better luck with Late regular season draft picks rather than with the Rookies

Interesting to see Carlton took Jesse D Smith with pick 22 (we used pick 23 on Thewlis). Do you think we would have taken the other Jesse if still available?

Some stats for Mr Perkins, from various rounds of the WAFL season..
(I don't know how accurate- I mean, look at the H column and then the IH column on the first row- not making sense)

K H M G B IK IH I50 T TP
22 4 5 0 1 0 8 1 6 26
9 7 5 0 0 1 8 0 0 16
9 9 7 0 0 3 8 4 1 18
12 1 11 1 7 4 - 1 23
12 3 3 - - - - 6 15
14 4 4 - - - - 1 18

Anyway- you get the idea, you can find the rest here:
http://www.perthdemons.com/2004Fixtures.htm - those stats are from after Rd14. Sorry it's a little messy.

I can also tell you he wore no.6

I think we would absolutely love it if two rookies would've done enough to be promoted at season's end. I think it is pretty safe to say that it's Archer's and Colbert's final year. As well as them, there are Sav and Corey Mac, and you'd say that at least one of them won't be around in 2006.

Add to that the likes of Baird, Watson, Le Cras, Shane Harvey, Harding, Michael Stevens, Sansbury and a few more who need to have a good year to be assured of a spot on the list. At least 3 will go from that group I would have thought and having a couple of rookies retained will mean that we won't have to draft new players with low picks. It's always good IMO to be in a position to draft no more than 3 or 4 kids at the ND who would be a good chance to make it, and leave the speculative selections for Rookie Draft where you only need a couple (if any) to make it. Ends up cheaper for the club and better for the list management.

Yeah Justin Perkins played with North Ballarat Rebels in 2001 then he spent a couple of years playing with the North Ballarat Roosters in the vfl before joining Perth.

He could be following the old blueprint of building up a strong side starting with the backline. Remember, he's spent plenty of time under Malthouse, and I remember reading that Neil Craig is taking that approach.

If he is doing that, then he'll just be churning through the players until he finds the ones who can do the job.

Add them to the kids who we drafted over the past few years and it looks like we'll have a team coming through where most of the players are in the same age bracket.

Also, the likes of Picioane, Schwarze, and Pratt will be thinking that it's their last chance to get a career going.

I'm not sure what happens in that situation.

I think they may still get 2 years. Wasn't Daniel Pratt originally from Brisbane? He got 2 years with us, but didn't he also get 2 years with the Lions?

Yup, Northern Eagles FC. DOB 21 March 1983

185 cm 86kg >>> in 2000 what's his body stats now ?

Can't see why he should be granted 2 years now.

On the other forgotten guy picked up last season...Kris Shore ?
