So I guess a team doing high altitude training on their bye week would be better? Our bye week is in round 11 so obviously it would help in the second half of the season.

There's a lot of studies in scientific journals that do say different things though. I wouldn't imagine that clubs spend all that money if it's only really going to benefit them in team bonding.

Then you would have to find a suitable location for altitude training to occur that won't disrupt the routine of the players too much.

I agree though there must be some benefits otherwise teams wouldn't be doing it, I just think that the benefits aren't all that great and teams would be much better suited to doing more skills and game plan training.

Thats a pretty good assessment. He does not have Halls off the mark pace at this stage, he's not as big either in height. But he is very good in traffic, makes good decisions and is a very good user by foot. His set shot kicking is remarkable. Has spent time with Willi at CHB and handled it really well. Has a happy knack of finding the score board. Like Hall he's not a big pack marker, but is smart, knows where to be when playing forward.

Needs fraction more speed I reckon, and while he made great in roads on his fitness last pre season, he needs to go another level again.

But....if he gets the ball in range 5 or 6 times, he'll kick 4 or 5 goals. deadly shot.

Thanks Daz and Temple

The red blood cell count doesn't go back to normal as soon as you get back to sea-level. It lasts until the red blood cells die which is about 4 months but the effects usually won't last that long at all.

What I don't understand is if it's not going to last for a whole season why do so many teams train at high altitudes? Maybe they have a better tolerance for pain?

Training at altitude allows one to perform at higher intesity and also recover more quickly for a time after it is undertaken. This is clearly a benefit if it allows for a more intense pre-season.

I read somewhere that DJ looked "fat in the face" and that meant he had come back to pre season training as unfit. Finishing top 6 in the time trial isn't bad at all for a guy with a fat face.

No surprises there :p Crossy is an absolute beast when it comes to the fitness side of footy. Works as hard as anyone.

Yeah, but quite a few intellectual Bulldog supporters wanted him gone by the end of this year. Him or our AA rep & captain, Matty Boyd. Seems
Fitness is overrated if you're slow.

DJ is starting to grow on me.

If he just gets his skills up to scratch. He's pretty fit, and not a small guy. Could be our raging bull.

Same
Think he has something to provide for us, if he keeps his head focus and his confidence he would be a good player.

His ball handling skills still need to improve too, he did show a fair bit of improvement in this area towards the end of the season though.

Ill admit I bagged him a bit this year :p But DJ seriously could be pretty decent, he seems like he has good work ethic.

I swear I am the only one who thinks our team is not that bad off, EVERYONE has us rebuilding for the next 5 years but I actually think there is a lot to work with.

We could (could is the big word here) have a very dangerous forward line within a few years.

Gia Jones ___
Grant Panos Dahlhaus

Jones the big pack mark option.
Gia providing the skill.
Panos the leading option, slotting goals from everywhere.
Dahlhaus the goalsneak, providing pressure and xfactor.
Grant is the big one, he could be anything really, he can take a massive grab, has speed to burn and just general xfactor, I could see him playing a really good third man up option in our forward line.

With the likes of Tutt and Howard lacing out passes to them all we need now is another quick skillful mid to help out griff and we need to get our defence sorted and we have a team with loads of upside!

Get positive guys!

Time to move gia to the midfield for more game time i reckon. Clearly has the endurance to do it. Seems to be good when moved into the center. Could be wasted in the forward pocket.

And which of Cross, Boyd and Libba would be dropped as you couldn't play 4 slow players in midfield and Gia is only one out of that four capable of playing forward, he will also likely be our leading goal kicker next year.

When Crossy or Boydy need a spell he could play there, remember his couple of games when Boyd broke his hand, he dominated!

Great to see Howard run well, can see him and Tutty being on our wings for the next decade hopefully.

I see Vezspremi and DJ fighting for that last spot in the forward line.

plus with Gia in the midfield, he can read the play better are set up other players or do a massive kick into 50m, he went into the mid against WCE (8point lost) and helped bring us back.
