What I really liked was that we had almost everyone on track ( Henry in the gym, Jones unsighted), everyone looking fit, some players like Keeler, Hugo, Carroll, Dow and Clark looking sharp and lots of competition .....

With 6 recruits with so much potential standing on the sidelines.

Competition will be fierce and we see how ruthless the club is. Perform.or move on.

If that is the case then why did Carlton delist him.

Playing devils advocate.
They just delisted their second highest goal scorer, they’re not the greatest decision makers.

Carroll is bound to be a superstar, having been produced by the second best football club in the country - the mighty East Fremantle Sharks 😎

We really need a good injury run after the last couple seasons, and a gnarly draw. But I'm thinking what a fit McRae and Windy will do for our midfield. Also Garcia looks like he's going to explode and we don't know how good Mattaes is going to go but we've had a peak. It's just a matter of time.
Our midfield may have a whole new look next year.

I'm possibly way off the mark but what if he was delisted the same way Membrey was. I still think this quote has a hidden meaning.

"...we wish him well for the next opportunity in his career,” Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin said.

To me that reads as if they were happy for him to continue his career elsewhere. He was probably after multiple years at more money than their cap could afford - so was done a favour.

I don't genuinely believe he was delisted because he wasn't good enough. I've only seen him twice at training, maybe three times, but I'm confident that he will be playing round 1 such is his impact already.

Comments on the blues forum seem to suggest this is reasonably likely too. Though they are stacked with mids.

And it makes him look better from our end so I'm down with it!

Lots of ifs but our midfield depth won't be shocking if him, Dow and Clark can take a step up. I got hopes for all of them still!

We’ve got 3 groups of Mids now and it will provide excellent competition for spots.

I think we’ll field a strong VFL team this year.

3 groups:

Established: Steele, Macrae, Clark etc

Newbies: Garcia, Pou, Windy etc

Depth: Dow, Carroll, Hall etc

Okay so don’t pick apart my group names or the players within, but the point I’m making is that through trading/drafting in that ‘Depth’ group of ready made mature bodies, it’s going to really add a spicy level of competition for spots and accelerate the ‘Newbies’ development.

So do we think it's just Harry Boyd going to be trialling for a rookie spot?

Has anyone heard anything on Cole or Peckett? Trialling? Sandy for a year?

Peckett expected to sign with Sandy along with Lachie Voss and Ned Maginness from Dragons.

Bytel and Allison off to Coburg. Curtis Taylor to Pies VFL

Is Paddy Dow generally considered a write off by the majority of fans?

I'm only asking because I feel like he is a bit of a forgotten man, rarely being mentioned. He looks in ripping nick this year. If he gets a full preseason in, he'll be like a new recruit to our midfield. I have definitely not given up on him. In fact, he's one of those ones who - if he gets a bit of consistency in his footy and body - will be the type to lift us to the next level, moreso than the kids who will naturally progress.

Adding two dynamic players like Dow & Carroll, along with Macrae and a continuation of Pou's end of season form and suddenly our midfield looks completely different. Add in Windy and Garcia as those manic defensive minded midfielders to that mix. I am started to realise why Jack Steele had a big smile on his face today.
In my mind he’s not a write off, but I’m not counting on anything, even his place in the 23. Two clubs have said that this is his year for 7 or 8 years. I find that players like that then have so many restraints (probably confidence or mental) and they never take off. Clark could be in the same boat. Both ruined by injuries and that’s often a big driver where you just never see their best footy.

Yep, he's done.

Put on the rookie list for salary cap reasons. Will be put on the inactive list allowing us to pick up a player in the supplementary player period.
I wonder why we needed to include him in next year’s cap (talking 2025) rather than just biting it off for ‘24? Wouldn’t we have so much space that they could have thrown a bunch of cash out the window?

If one of Keeler or Garcia can become an unexpected break out star, it would totally change the course of our clubs future.

Keeler at full potential is exactly what we need in the forward line; a dynamic, athletic forward who can clunk marks, chop out in the ruck, and provide a point of difference/ foil to King.

Similarly, if Garcia could become a Libba (who I think is a comparison to him at his ceiling), then we have that hard nut, clearance focused mid with speed and defensive pressure out the wazoo. If that were to happen, then all of a sudden our midfield would look full of promise.

Love hearing that these two are catching people's eyes, and hope that they both play a big part in both preseason and 2025
Libba wouldn’t lay a hand on Garcia. Would be gone as quick as a flash.

Wheels within wheels.
Someone suggested that the afl will foot some of his salary under this scenario so a discount is a discount is a discount.

Yep, have seen that before and agree. But why they didn’t trade him is another thing. There was talk he would go back to WA where he had strong interest. Weird.

Maybe he had photos of Voss?

I used to think Libba was the comparison for Garcia too until I saw his breakaway speed and ball use

In terms of current players, it's more Touk Miller now imo, especially given his running ability

Bont 2.0, Touk 2.0, Day 2.0, LDU, and Laird 2.0 gonna hit like crack in a few years

wtf are you talking about?

Only one of those 2 finished runner up in the BnF and in the AA 40
Man squad and it wasn’t NAS.

There for he has more to go before people anoint him the equal or better than Sinclair.

Sinclair is the best half back in the comp. Thats not a knock on NAS.

Well you said Nas needs to be as good as Sinclair so you seem to have lost focus. NAS probably does go up a level but he’s the best player that we’ve drafted in about 20 years. He’s one of the few that just needs to keep doing his thing.
