Maybe, and i sometimes have concerns about Lyon's "jobs for my mates " attitude.

I just busted Trout bullshitting on his Linkedin profile lining up the dates as if he never left the club.
My memory, and Wikipedia have him quitting coaching partway through 2010 season for personal reasons.

Found it.
Start of 2011.
"Senior Coach Ross Lyon said, ‘We are extremely excited to appoint Tony as Recruiting Manager. He has outstanding experience within the football environment, where many young players have prospered under his leadership and direction.”
Thats what i thought.

I'm not a fan of the new crest. The more I look at it the more I dislike it.
wtf were they thinking.

Whereas the more I look at it the more I like it. And I’m, generally speaking, a traditionalist.

I think their thinking was spot on, though I concede not everyone will agree.

Great post Aka. I’d suggest our woeful lack of player development is due to reducing football ops costs. Which has a long term reverse impact. This isn’t too dissimilar to other clubs, such as Essendon, Carlton, Roos etc.

Where as Swans, Dees, WB, Geelong etc all have a strong player development program and their success is notable.
Problem with reducing football spend to reduce operating costs, you generally end up losing greater $$$ due to constant mediocre performances. Less revenue in regards to sponsorship, home game receipts, membership, etc,

None of our leaders had any vision or passion for on field success. Bassat has been the best thing to happen to the club in ages. He is driven and has a plan to get a pro set up in place. Build the foundation well and you get the kind of systems that have Geelong and Sydney always around the mark decade after decade.
Basset has been terrific. Unfortunately, if I recall his interview with Saints TV, he hasn’t got that much time left due to constitutional rules. Maybe another couple of years.

I would have liked Bassat to stay long term. Not to be.

Agree with these sentiments! Wondering though, has the Enright succession plan ever been discussed formally by the Club? Personally I think it’s fairly plain to witness, and I’m 100% all for it. Sydney/Melbourne mould.
Whoever takes it after Ross, they will more than likely inherit a decent list with good prospects.

I too would love bassat to stay for an extra term

It would be a mistake for Bassat to not continue to oversee things. Irreplaceable.

At least he'll hand over something working the way it should. It's easy to roll with momentum, hard to start from behind.

Imagine achieving your lifelong goal of playing top level football and getting this for your trouble...

I know club social media has come a long way of late, but **** have you seen anything as depressingly underwhelming as that? Richo actually speaks like a suit, not the coach of that group of men, and the polite applause and gentle shoulder taps for Phillips… goodness me what a state we were in!!

That's not true. Our spend was comparable to other clubs. Definitely comparable to the dogs. It's not uncommon that we out spend them.

We just Appointed the wrong people.

I've been away from this forum for a couple of weeks. I really don't want to read back, can anyone succinctly tell me if there is a reason people are discussing Billings, beyond being bored?

Happy new year y'all, hope 2025 is memorable for the right reasons!
Now there is the error in your start to 2025, by looking for logic and explanations as to why a topic is being discussed. I don't believe that logic, a topic being relevant or current are the reasons for a topic once again being discussed to death.
If you take another two weeks off and venture back, you may find that the discussion has moved on to Aaron Hamill's hamstrings and how many 2 more week notices he had before he was right to play.

If i recall correctly he was burnt out. The narrative back then was Ross was too demanding.

SOS was another who ended up pulling up stumps with coaching and going in a different direction.

I've been away too.
I can only assume BigFooty posters are trying to keep their posting fitness up in the off-season, and these topics are their summer drills.

A few reps of Richo, a couple of laps of Billings, a sprint or two of blaming Finnis and "nice guy" policies.

I'd rather watch Big Bash, and I wouldn't open the curtains to watch Big Bash through the window if it was played in my back garden.

Happy New Year all!

The brief and combustible Billings chat moved us away from the long month of Hunter Clark - who and what is he? - chat.
It worked...plus we got Lord of the Rings lessons...and fantastic Gif work.
