End of 2019 we picked up Abbott and Alabakis, but Marshall went into 2020 as our clear number one ruck.
And Paddy Ryder, who was #1 ruck in every game he played for St Kilda.

Please talk about Caminiti as a key defender.Well not quite correct as Marshall was picked up by St Kilda with the intent more him to be a key forward, or perhaps ruck forward. But as you say when the other rucks all went down Marshall was given the opportunity to ruck in the firsts and
At 201cm, the versatile key position player won the Roosters best first-year player award in his first season in the VFL in 2015, but was starved of opportunity in the final year of North Ballarat’s alignment with North Melbourne.
Or Caminiti in defence.
I have my doubts still on Heath, and Dodson is still a bit light but looks every 2.54cm to be a future ruck for us.
Back with another training highlights video.
King is the biggest player in our list if you look at the team photo. Is it just me, or is King noticeably taller than Dodson in that footage?!![]()
Add to that what looks like a moon boot, and that his right foot is clearly off the ground…

Running or working players until they break down can and should never be considered a positive. He is a 20yo kid what do you think his parents are thinking? What will they be saying to Matteus about our injury prevention systems and how we are managing their son. How does that effect our chances of the kid wanting to stay long term? The knock effects are huge and they are far more damaging than the positives.
The old knock em down grab another player mentality went out in the 70's & 80's, but it seems Lyon hasnt caught up yet!
Transactional terms that might work, but gee I absolutely love watching NAS play.
It's definitely a robbing Peter to pay Paul scenario, but half back is easier to cover.Better for the team in bursts for sure.
But as full-time?
I guess you are suggesting that the team as a whole, even when Sincs is not optimally used in so far as his own singular strengths are concerned, is better off.
I feel it’s a bit like getting a Lamborghini to tow the trailer down to the tip, but if it gets the job done, and the Lambo doesn’t get injured in the process, maybe it’s a win?
I just love to see Sincs streaming off the backline, don’t we all?
One thing to support your idea might be that there seems to be a few halfback options.
One thing against is that, without Battle, Wilkie is gonna be under the pump, and the class of Sincs back there would be welcome.
Butters (2xAA) is a much better player than Nas and plays in a role - fast mid/fwd - that is severely lacking in personnel both at our club and across the competition. Very arguable to say he is easier to replaceI would pay Nas what ever he wants. He's the best player we've drafted since the early 2000s. Butters would be easier to replace.

If Nas leaves then we have Travaglia, Arie, Hastie all vying for that spot as kids who could be very good players. We have no one that projects to be close to Butters' level in the same role
Not all of them. I’ve been in one recently. You can literally see the st kilda sock above what isa regular boot or shoe. Moon boots take up literally the entire calf area.

Eamonn Armstrong.Surely Schoenmaker would be your best bet for rising star at this stage? Would think he would be involved a lot from half back.
Butters made the All Australian squad in his second season and at 24, isn’t close to his peakSo far Butters is higher profile and probably at his peak. Nas is 21 and hasn't even scratched the surface. It's easier to find quality mids than a distributing HB.
To me Butters is a gun but he's not going to move the needle. Probably replaces Steele or Macrae longer term but he's not going to absolutely change the side. Losing Nas would. It would be a decision that we regret for a long time.

The fact that people think Butters has hit his peak at age 24 proves how good he is now, and how good he could get when he’s truly at peak age of ~26+. For reference, same age as Izak RankineI think it is fair to say, nobody knows how good NAS is yet.
Slow moving (speed and time) and silky, and balanced with beautiful poise, hands and fingers like magnets, ground sense, his best hasn’t been fully revealed, but neither have his weaknesses. They will be revealed this year. In fact, he wasn’t immune from the odd mistake late last season and got caught out a few times. We know the oppo strategists will be on to him now.
And we know the media will start bangin’ on about Port Adelaide chasing him as the season wears on. Let’s hope Port have a pretty terrible season.
This Butters guy, we have seen his best surely? Could he be like a MaCrae? Superstar General in his mid-20s, regular foot soldier at 30?
Nas should have made the squad twice now, he could still be anything, butters is great but you're sleeping on nas's potentialButters made the All Australian squad in his second season and at 24, isn’t close to his peak
If it was easier to find quality mids than HBs then guys like Daicos, Sheezel, Laird, Richards, Crisp wouldn’t move into the midfield
Butters is a different type of player to anyone we have - he doesn’t really replace anyone. He’s 10x more damaging than Steele ever was and is more a burst out of stoppage player than Macrae who is a ball-winner
Hastie still looks very lean - like a first year draftee. Not sure about reports of him bulking up.
Butter's 3rd season was bog average and likely marred by injury. He didnt get going again properly until 2023.The fact that people think Butters has hit his peak at age 24 proves how good he is now, and how good he could get when he’s truly at peak age of ~26+. The kid could win a Brownlow
I love Nas but he’s not at the level Butters was when he was 21. Could still catch up though
Haha...pretty sure Lancey Boy was on the end of a wet willie. How about Byrnes with his eye on the Captaincy. Is Cordy rubbing white powder onto his gums here
