I really like this team and I would expect Hannath to be pushing for a spot given his size. All our other mature aged guys have had an impact in their first year.

B: Spurr Dawson Snos
HB: duffman maca jono
C: Hill mundy Dpearce
HF: fyfe mayne crozier
FF: Walters Pav ballas
R: sandi Barlow Crowley
Res: Clarke,de boer,c Pearce

Sub:mora

I like it, I think the back line is a bit top heavy so I would replace Snos with Ibbo or Suban.

HB: duffman maca jono
C: Hill mundy Dpearce
HF: fyfe mayne crozier

Res: Clarke,de boer,c Pearce, Morabito

Mellington could easily replace Crozier, Griffin could replace Clarke.

I like the fact that I could name 5-6 players that I would be happy for us to name in our best 22 not there.

Suban\Griffin\Mellington\Duffy\Simpson\Vic Michie\Neale

Silvagni needs some good WAFL form to earn a start.

Hopefully one of these players can push for a spot early to put preasure on Clarke - Jack Hannath, Craig Moller (Sydney), Matthew Taberner (Victoria) and Alex Howson (East Fremantle).

I am hoping Taberner or Hannath can play forward\ruck for peel and string together 4-5 good games this year.

I dont think ibbo would've done himself any favors after squibing against Adelaide in this years semi final.
I don't think playing Snos makes us too top heavy,Geelong played lonergan,Taylor,Scarlett and mackie all 190 cm +.....

Faulks says hi, and so does Jack Anthony.

Reality is that none of us really know how much of a forward impact Hannath can have, and he may not know either. After that he is competing for a ruck berth ahead of Griffin and Clarke, and he definitely has it in front of him there.

Short-term I have low expectations of him, and hoping for a pleasant surprise. Long-term, I think he can be very handy from the reading on here.

I just can't pick a 22 at this stage without seeing how some of the newbies and morabito fit into Ross style of play.

Without derailing the thread I will say that we've picked Hannath up at the right age and if anyone is prime to adapt quickly to afl footy out of the new recruits it could be him, he's been exposed to finals footy at sanfl level and also worked hard to get on a list. Just at a prime age for a big bloke so frothing to see what he can do in WAFL .

My biggest question about the list is whether the match committee will make minor changes through the year based on form, match ups and resting minor niggles which all regular 22 players carry or will it be like Ross is known to push in years gone by where stability is king and a place is hard get when the unit as a whole is performing well ?
I'm not saying change should happen, just super interested to see if we have a few ins and outs each week that aren't necessarily forced by injury

Lonergan and Taylor are the two KPD's in that list.

Scarlett has always played as a third tall and Mackie is rebounding defender who is 190cm's.

I see Dawson and Silvagni as KPD only. Johnson is a good third tall, with McPharlin probably having the ability to play the rebounding defender but why would you take away your best KPD.

Silvagni and Dawson both have average skills \ agility which limits the positions they can play.

Obviously it depends on Match up but I just don't see it working.

I could see the team switching to a small forward line and running us of our feet.

Morabito is a lock when he's fit. I believe Crozier is a budding star & will play. Simpson is a jet & should play at some point.
So how the hell are we going to fit the likes of Neale, Sheridan, Michie, Mellington, Menagola, Sutcliffe, who all have legitimate claims, in?
I tried to list 22 players & got to 28!

Which would mean if Simpson plays this year ahead of these other young players, he will be unbelievable to watch.
I just can't see Ross playing him if he doesn't totally warrant a game and improve our side.
Josh Simpson's highlights reel is the best I have ever seen.

Match committee meetings should be robust in 2013. I'd love to be a fly on the wall.

late edit; Menegola won't be a problem as he isn't available for selection without a LTI.

You're going to start a riot with the Matt Deboer fan club plus I think there's a strong chance Morabito will be available for Rd1.

The weakest 2 players are Spurr and Ibbotson IMO but no-one to replace them (other than Suban who I do not rate). Would like to include Sutcliffe, Neale and Mello but too hard right now. Sutcliffe in particular can have an impact IMO. I'd like us to develop another specialist back pocket (perhaps Mellington)?

I think DeBoer could be a great back pocket. He is exceptionally quick, committed, tall at 189cm (I think?) but agile. Strong overhead too, and there would be no doubts he has the pack mentality which thrives in defence. Some people might see it as a waste, but he could move into the midfield eventually after Mundy goes. I honestly think he could be AA standard back there. Milne v DeBoer sounds a hell of a lot better than Milne v Ibbotson. Or Betts v DeBoer. The only question is on his kicking, but imo he has tidied it up and is no longer an issue.

His spot in attack can be covered by Mellington, who is also more dangerous from outside 50 than DeBoer.

Personally I can't see Simpson playing round 1, just because he is too skinny. And Mora would need to have a big Nab cup given the coaches constantly repeat they want to progress him slowly.

Good points and I would be happy for Sutcliffe to take Simpson's spot. Agree also on the DeBoer call.

Maybe something like this:

B: DeBoer Dawson Spurr
HB: Johnson McPharlin Duffield
C: Morabito Crowley Hill
HF: D.Pearce Clarke Walters
F: Mayne Pavlich Ballantyne
R: Sandilands Fyfe Mundy
IC: C.Pearce Barlow Mellington

Sub: Sutcliffe

E: Neale, Simpson, Ibbotson / Crozier

Really good idea about deboer. I think that one of C.Pearce or DeBoer will have to repositioned to make way for Morabito and D.Pearce playing midfield. Crozier will also come into the 22 too I think. I' ve been to training quite a bit. The kid will be an absolute gun in 2013 in my view.

Starting to warm up to DeBoer playing back pocket with his tenacity and above-average pace, probably would work out better than Suban. C Pearce to take DeBoer's spot as half-forward. Would love Crozier to explode next year, putting in the hard yards AND has masses of talent... hopefully he can use those sublime foot skills and sure hands to even better use in 2013. If Neale can translate WAFL into AFL form within 2-3 years, we got a club great on our hands (a bit of Xmas hyperbole haha), and I sincerely hope Sutcliffe can bulk up that much to become more than Subcliffe. Hope Sheridan steps up even more next year too.
