We have to axe at least three guys at the end of the year. Who will go?

I expect us to cut more. We're going to be looking to add some new blood at year's end, so maybe we'll have to make 4-5 new spaces.

I guess the best way to do it is to package two players and trade them for one draft pick. But we rarely trade, and other clubs have the same issues with list space as well.

So anyway, who and how many will go?

I reckon Fletcher and Graham are two obvious choices. Braun's time might also be up.

fletch and graham are just about out the door.

i'd like to see brauny kept on for 2009. even if he doesn't play to many games you can't underestimate his influence on the playing group around the training track... and with no disrespect to MB, if come the end of 2009 woosha and the staff are having trouble with delistings then they have one that they will most likely make.

armstrong will have to work hard to keep his spot at the end of 2008 as well.

IMO, these guys are on the chopping block:

Fletcher (obvious reasons)
Graham (obvious reasons)
Braun (pushed into retirement 12 months early)
Wirrapanda (been talks of retirement for a few years now)
Armstrong (can't cement permanent spot with literally no competition for the small forward spot, what hope has he got in coming seasons?)
C.Jones (surplus to requirements. Never set the world on fire).

Safe, but...:

Hansen (won't be delisted, but probably common knowledge he's on borrowed time due to injuries)
Butler (if he does another groin, he's gone. Sumich said as much himself)
Thomson (may well be dropped & rookie listed if list space needs to be created)
Rosa (trade bait, a player who would prosper at a strong club like Hawks or Cats. Been said on here that WCE rate him highly though).

Hard to judge.

I think the coaching staff rate Graham quite high. I don't think he will be delisted yet.
Braun I would expect to retire.
Armstrong is probably gone.
Fletcher is on the brink, but I think they'll be keen to hold onto him for another year at least.
Wirra may retire, but I certainly hope not.

Armstrong has done his dash I think.

Other than that it's still pretty open.

The other 2 WAFL guys in Chad Jones and Graham may be kept for additional depth I guess.

You're only as good as your last game as they say, and Fletch's was pretty good, if he can maintain a good bit of form he will probably survive the chop, we are still a better side with him in the team, playing good footy.

From the matches I have watched this year, including four games live, where obviously you can see a lot more, I would say the following players would be up for being traded/delisted:

Graham (traded): Too slow, not strong enough.
Nicoski (traded): Couldn't hit a bus with an egg in his hand let alone hit a team-mate on the chest with a kick.
Braun (delisted): Too slow these days. Has been a very good player though.
Armstrong (traded/delisted): Has struggled this year and can't cement a spot.
Chad Jones (traded/delisted): The words 'one-trick pony' come to mind.
Seaby (traded): I doubt it will happen but he needs to improve.
Staker (traded): He would get us a good draft choice but I don't think the club will do it though they should seriously consider it.

I think both Fletcher and Wirrpanda are contracted until the end of 2009 and will play out their careers until then.

I find it interesting you mention Seaby. Pre-season I thought he was playing very well so I don't know what's happened to him between then and now. He's definitely out of form a bit though. I don't know if Staker would come into the equation. He showed last week what he is capable of. He just needs to do it every week, that's the problem.

Braun will retire.

Fletcher still could provide some service if he continues form but should retire.

Graham Rosa Hansen are trade bait - upgrade draft picks if not keep as depth players.

Seaby, Nicoski and Staker should be kept unless we get awesome offers.

Armstrong will be a depth player and could be delisted.

Chad Jones will be a depth player & kept.

Obviously a lot can change but at this stage I'm fairly sure that Braun wants to retire at the end of the year and that Armstrong should be delisted.

I also think Fletcher should be delisted but I'm fairly sure that he is contracted for 2009. There's a thread somewhere on this board which has all the contracts lengths in it which would be worth digging up.

Re: Graham, Hansen, Chad Jones, Staker, Seaby, Nicoski etc. I believe they should be kept but I suspect that we'll trade at least one of them. Trying to guess who though is a waste of time. Personally I'd only shop Hansen and maybe Graham but what's the value there? An upgrade of a pick?

Seaby constantly underperforms. I mean in two grand finals he hasn't had a kick. Maybe he will flourish somewhere if he is the lead ruckman but I know Eagles officials are disappointed in his form this year though he isn't Robinson Crusoe there. As for Staker, well we all know he has talent, but he generally plays about three or four good games a year and then the rest is average. I have no idea what makes him tick but the club needs to find out to get the best of him.

We should be giving Seaby more game time in the ruck and play Cox as an onballer. 8/10 times when Cox hasnt played Seaby really stood up in those games. Its not great knowing youll only be playing 30 minutes in the ruck at random points in the game and Seaby's output will consequently be effected.

I'll prefer to keep Armstrong. He can be our Damien Adkins of a few years back where he will never play 22 games but play a few good games whilst providing good service off-field for the younger boys.

Thomson... Rookie List

Seaby - One more year (but i really think were waiting for Sullivan to develop)

Graham - Gone IMO (Kennedy, Hansen, Brown, Lynch, Cones up forward & E-Mac, Hunter, Spagher, Glassy, Schofield down back)

Fletch - Perhaps the 2008 version of Shane Woewodin?

Brauny - Will Retire

So I see Brauny, Graham, Fletch gone. Rosa & Hansen as tradeables. Staker is up in the air (like the way he plays really).

There's 2 changes.

I'll try and get all the contracts if I can.

brauny has pretty much said he will retire hasnt he???

armstrong probably delisted, and as much as i am not a fan of fletcher, he does provide good support as someone who can play if our other mids are injured/suspended.

there is no chance of nicoski being delisted traded, he's been out of footy for a long timeand will (as he should) be given plenty of chances to get back into form. waters was trrrible when he first came back from injury. his disposal is still poor (if not marginally improved) but he has improved a heap.

I think Graham could be finished, just hasnt looked like it unfortunately, i think one of graham and Cones anyway.

Seaby = zero chance of being delisted

wirrpanda may bow out this year as well. body has just had enough but he is playing as well as ever....

whats every1 obsesion with delisting fletcher, has def not been one of our worse has had a couple of bad disposals and everyone wants the AA delisted, one of our best against NM

Traded/Delisted/Elevated.

Graham-Gone
Braun- Retired
Wirrapanda-Retired (thats the required 3)

Nicoski- Gone Overtaken by Schofield/Brown/Spangher (Med running Def)
Armstrong- Gone Overtaken by Mckinley/Masten(small forward/Midfield)
Seaby-Gone will be used as trade bait.
Thomson-Delisted and re-rookie listed
Rosa- Gone Overtaken by Ebert/Davis/J.Mac(Wing/Defender/Tagger)
Fletcher- Gone Overtaken by Butler/Priddis (leadership/Experiance)
Embley- Gone Will be used as trade Bait.

Davis- Eleveated(Defender/Midfield)
Houlihan- Elevated(wing/Forward)
Wilson- Elevated(forward/Defender)
Wilkes- Elevated(CHB/FB)
Sullivan- Elevated(Ruck) Replace Seaby
Arrowsmith- Elevated(Wing/Forward)
Stevenson- Delisted and Re-rookie listed

That give WCE 4 picks in the National draft and 5 picks in the Rookie draft. Our picks (as the is now would be) #3, #18Pr, #22, #39, #55, #71.

And Im sure it will only get better with the Player+draft pick trades we will do to lift our draft selections EG: Rosa+#18+#55 Trade For #4+#20 From Ess
Then #4 and Embley+ Nicoski for #2 + #17 From Melb
Then #20 +39+#71+ Seaby for #6+ Travis casserly or Alex Rance or David Gourdis (Just 1 of them WA boys)
That would leave us with Picks #2, #3, #17, #18 in the National Draft and 1 Young Player.
This is only a guide Ess, Dees and tigers fans Im not say they will trade this way OK
