For what its worth only 8 Old Xavs in the final Rep Side......

Not sure that this is selection panel bias (even though it is basically an Old Xavs coaching and selection committee) considering the amount of talent from many clubs not available for selection that would have normally been walk-up starts.

Happy to be proven wrong if anyone knows of any stars that were not selected purely on a selection decision (i.e, not interstate, injured etc). For example from the VAFA site "Big V regulars Jack Bull, James Rimington, Josh Madden, Nick Sautner, Shane Neaves, Daniel Strachan and Hiwad Shakhaib were all unavailable for selection, whilst lively forwards Sam Pickett, Andrew Merrington, Nick Ries and Nick Smith were also unavailable, along with in form midfielders Cam Richardson, Nick Roberts, Nick Jamieson and Steven Salopek."

Maybe OX players were the only ones left!

Perhaps when the squads was named and the numbers from Xavs were so disproportionate to other clubs that they figured why bother dragging myself to another night of training in the middle of winter when the odds are probably against me anyway.

Having 8 Old Xavs in the final VAFA team to play against Victoria Country is a bit like the British & Irish Lions having 10 players from Wales to face the Wallabies tomorrow night.

How many players made themselves unavaliable to play for the VAFA this Sunday? Are they more concerned about helping their club trying to a) make finals; or b) avoid relegation? Or is it the clubs who are putting pressure on players to withdraw from these rep games?

or maybe players just want the week off and do something else other than footy?

Im not a Bernards person, but yes. Nick Mitchell new coach.

Same Mitchell brought Oggers down from C to D1 was a disaster? hear tempers are seething at the aptly named snakepit over coach Tankards sacking, Bernies in turmoil with more divisions amongst players and supporters than downtown Cairo. Whisper is soldiers set to dismiss fumbling regime and restore order in Egypt (sorry Essendon)

The VAFA 11.16 (82) def the VCFL 11.13 (79) by 3 points at the Junction Oval on Sunday.

In the other games the VAFA Premier B-Div 4 lost by 1 point to Vic Country, and the VAFA Under 19 defeated Vic Country by 4 points.

From Premiership Favourites :thumbsu: to sacking a coach 10 games later. Tough gig.

Correct. Mifsud gone. Not sure of anything beyond that but word is he resigned. Whether that means he was pushed but given option of saving face by jumping first I don’t know. I assume Tonkin will take over until seasons end. Tonks is a top bloke but not sure he has been top banana previously.

Mifsud has taken Beauy from C grade in 2010 to A grade in 2013 so deserves some respect. Seems a 14 goal thumping against a De La side that had been battling for the last month or so was the final nail.

Incredible that we have had 3 ‘A’ grade coaching change in a few short weeks. One of these 3 clubs will join Carey in B grade next year so perhaps a bit of panic setting in. Blues will be better for the change. Not only do they get a better coach but also they inherit a gun player who has already kicked a couple of bags. Not so sure about the other 2. Anyone care to nominate which of these clubs will playing ‘B’ grade next year?

Very handy player in his day, Mifsud.

Blues will be safe (only due to change in coach) surely the VAFA dont expect us to believe he hasnt been paid one cent?? Can't beleive more isn't being made of this??

Think Beauy will be safe still have to play Blues, Carey at home (but would want to improve looking at the past 3 weeks results!)

StBern's in trouble for mine (which is amazing given the list of players and home ground advantage)

Coll's still not out of the woods??

How sweet would it be if St Bernards dropped? Oh man that would be sweet, the only thing better would be Beaumaris going back down oh the joy!!!!!!

In an ideal world the Bernies and the Sharks would both drop to B section but Carey's do thoroughly deserve their spot next year!

Didn't you read Sholly's editorial? It is the most selfless act in this history of the VAFA and amateurism in general by the sound of it. As has Ferg's whole VAFA career.

Have heard that current Essendon VFL Captain Matthew Bate playing for Xavs on the weekend with a view for finals qualification. Give them the cup now.

Tbh he won't really be that big an upgrade on what they have. He hasn't exactly set the world on fire at VFL level either..

Is still an Essendon VFL player (played for them last week) and is at Xavs on local interchange permit. As such he is required to play 5 games to qualify for finals. Don’t think Essendon have that many byes coming up so I cant see that happening.
