Bernards win tomorrow.
Scotch win tomorrow.
Collegians win tomorrow.
Xavs win tomorrow.

Would mean Bernards are secure in 2nd. And so Bernards v Blacks in round 18 means nothing.
Would mean Scotch locks up 3rd, 1 game clear of Collegians and Xavs. Scotch a definite finalist.

Look to Friday night next week..Collegians v Scotch at Harry Trott under lights....does Scotch rest players? A dead rubber for Scotch but a loss to Collegians would mean Xavs miss finals and Scotch play Collegians again in the 1st semi.

If they have 3rd spot stitched up and there is no possibility of the double chance you would be crazy not to rest players who might have niggles or otherwise could use a week off. There is view that Xavs have the wood over Scotch but the Cards are a fairly new look team and not many of them would have played Xavs in a final (last time 2008?) Scotch have a decent recent record against Xavs, reckon they have had at least 1 win in each of the last 3 seasons and on current form I would expect them to account for whoever they meet in the 1st semi. Clearley the 3rd best side in it this year and on their day not without some chance against the top 2 either.

I certainly agree with you.

Last time Scotch played Xavs it was a 6 point loss and I reckon Scotch are hitting good form late. I do not subscribe to the view that Scotch cannot beat Xavs. But I do subscribe to the view that Scotch would really fancy themselves at Elsternwick Park against Collegians.

I think the current top 4 will be it after next week.

I think Blacks will win the 2nd semi and expect a cracking Prelim between Bernards and Scotch.

OT came to play for the first time in a while.

Although i suspect that OX's percentage is too far gone to catch Collegians even if the Lions lose, as i suspect the result will be close either way under lights. If Collegians lose and OT win, then OT get to play finals.

I think Xavs were found out well and truly. They just dont have the pace of the younger teams. OT ripped them apart in the second half
well and truly. It must have been a relief for the Xavs camp when the final siren sounded.

If you cast your minds back one week, sure they got out to a big lead against De La, but from all reports were lucky to hang on, from a team coming home like a steam engine. They literaly stopped in their tracks....Not a good sign for a team hoping to play finals at HQ........

Way to go out on a limb by saying OX are cooked.
The only way Xavs get in the finals is if:
OT and Coll lose;
OX win;
and there needs to be an aggregate of about 120 points combined OX winning margin and Coll losing margin.

Would have been a lot closer if OX hadnt had 81 "For" points taken from them in their loss against Beau earlier this year.

On talent no doubt but on form not entirely sure. Don’t be surprised if De La salute this week. And no matter what happens Friday I can’t see OB rolling Xavs. They are a proud club who will want to end season with a win, even if they can’t make the finals.

I think a big crowd will be in attendance to wave goodbye to St. Bedes and things might spark up out on the field. Banksia isn't the nicest to place to travel to and with a luncheon on the crowd will be lubricated. Thoughts?

You would want to "swab" them if there ISNT a blue. Probably the two most unsavory Clubs regarding supporter behavoir.
You can bet the house on it that the Tennis Club balcony will be full at half time with supporters drinking Twinnings tea Im sure.
All the "barbs" about, "you will enjoy it in B grade next year" will be flying. People can only restrain themselves for so long..........then BANG!!!!

We all have differing opinions on opposition supporters. All clubs have their fair share that take abuse to another level but some clubs seem to have more than others. From my experience Beaumaris certainly fit into that category. However have always found St Bedes to be a really decent bunch on and off the field. Supporters’ vocal but generally good humored. For a long time I was of the view that St Bernards stood alone as they worst supporters in the comp, certainly in the higher grades. However I must say that recent observations are completely different. Seems current committee have been very proactive and they are intent on losing that reputation. A much more disciplined unit on the field also so all credit to them.

One of the fun parts of playing Ammos is the usually good natured/humoured banter you get from supporters, unlike the vile cr@p that I've heard at other suburban comps. I reckon those who hurl abuse are usually the ones who don't stick around when the chips are down.

Dont confuse success on the football field with a Clubs culture. Its the quality and character of the officialdom that will set the standard for a Clubs persona within the VAFA ( or any sport for that matter). Good, decent, quality members / people will set any Club onto the path
of respectability and acceptence. The same goes for the playing pool....obviously the better they can play, the better their position on the Ladder will be.

Would have to disagree. My experience at the snake pit this year was the worst I've ever seen from an ammo club. Not sure if there was a luncheon on that may have drawn a few of the old fellas out but the level of abuse and manner in which it was expressed was absolutely disgraceful.

Fair enough and I guess you can only call it as you see it. As I mentioned until this season they were, in my view, far and away the most abusive supporters in the comp however recent experiences have been more pleasant. The fact they are generally winning might have something to do with it.

I guess so but you win enough games during the year and it gives you the luxury of resting players going into a final. Plenty of clubs do it. With the greatest respect to Xavs and Trinity at best they can finish at 10/8 and that rarely gets you in finals. Trinity wining 1 of their last 6 or so and Xavs after a decent run have been very average across the last 3 weeks. The best 4 teams across 18 rounds to play finals and well done to them. Tipping Scotch to comfortably reverse tonight’s result next week.

Yes I agree. Scotch will easily account for Collegians and will trouble whichever team they meet in the Prelim.
