Any news from clubs over the Christmas/NY period? I have had a quick troll of the social media sites and all seems pretty quiet at the moment. Would imagine most clubs will be back into training mid - late Jan.

During the past few years, when VAFA (and AFL) hierarchy attended Umpire Appreciation Days at the Willi CY’s home games, officials, (can only remember Sholly) were proud to claim that with the number of clubs applying for inclusion into the VAFA, at least another division could be added.

Could that still be the case?

If so, there are potentially 4, or even 6 empty spots waiting to be tenanted.

I can’t understand why the hierarchy hasn’t supported 10-team divisions.

The competition needs to be back on an even keel and forget last season's difficulties.

Three key players following Cassidy-McNamara to Coburg VFL. No doubt this will hurt Trinity’s playing stocks if they are getting regular VFL games.

Interesting, firstly will Mr Silvestro go for cash or back to Caulfield or Blues? Secondly, nothing against those pleases but they're not exactly A or B grade talent. if they get regular games at VFL level you would have to think the standard is just average.

The standard at VFL level is all over the shop Mr Platinum

b Grade ruckmen can rest easy with McGregor from Monash Blues moving to the country.
They should be more relieved about Ant Forato moving interstate. Rather than bully C grade players, Ant was for many years one of the best ruckmen in A grade. Also played VFL for 2 clubs and represented the VAFA senior team. Despite being north of 30, is still a huge loss for the club and in his prime would back him every day of the week against big Mac.

Forato was a genuine gun ruckman and as you say, a big loss for De La.

Ruckmen don't grow on trees and there seems to be a real shortage of younger ruckmen across all levels of footy over the past few years.

Second that. Sadly for us the heir apparent to Forato has been lured to the SFL for cash with several others. Losing our two best ruckmen in one hit really hurts but gives an opportunity to someone else.

I love that old "chestnut"... Yes we will miss him, but it gives a chance for someone elsr....... Its like North Melb saying we will miss Wayne Carey for 4 weeks but it gives someone else a shot.......as if.

Well what else do you suggest we do? Can’t offer him more money than Bentleigh or go out an buy a replacement. In the world of ammo footy that’s all you can do – hope someone from the 2s or U19s steps up and takes the opportunity.

And comparing the 2nd choice ruckmen from a B grade VAFA club to Wayne Carey......seriously? To use your teminology "as if"🤣

JJ, your better than that....your missing the point. They (any club AFL, VFL VAFA etc ) try to play down the loss of a Star player with the argument
that it gives someone, who isnt in the team a chance to come in and play. Suggesting it is like with like, plenty of mayo, which clearly it wont be....Thats what Im getting at. Not literally the comparing of your players and your / their situation.

My response was somewhat tongue in cheek but in all seriousness, at this level all we can do is hope someone grabs the opportunity. It might sound like a cliché’but that is the reality of ammo football. When someone leaves for cash or a job interstate there is little capacity to anything else but hope someone can step up. I actually look forward to seeing who that might be.

Yes, I agree. You might just fluke that kid who walks through the gate and wants a game of footy, and turns out to be a star.. De La had one a number of years ago, cant remember his name, but was "gun" forward. Some one will tell us who he was. He saw the sign "Players wanted" and he just walked in...the rest is history.

Any practice matches to speak of? Surely clubs have locked them in by now.

No word out of Dairy Bell in regards to any pre-season hit outs though.
Pretty quiet on most clubs social media pages after going for a little scroll through all the teams.

I would imagine that all clubs will have a week off prior to R1 being the Easter weekend.
