Game Day Preseason Game 2 vs Port

Thought Pearce looked pretty good. McDonald looked like an upgrade to Hamling in the first half but I didn’t pay close attention to what was going on in the second.

Mids always look scared to attack the ball, waiting for someone else to do it. Young was great. Liked Fyfe, but his teammates need to stop fumbling his handballs. Reidy is pretty useless, the only thing I can remember is him giving away frees. Sturt with an all time shocker. Treacy was bad too. Tabs is done.
Agree Pearce looked good.

Tabs is proper cooked… List clogger

I think we can take a few things away from that game. Leaving aside the poor games from some of the regulars that have established themselves (Brayshaw and Serong in particular), it looks like Worner, Reidy, Voss, Tabs and Sturt are depth. Our gameplan for kick-ins is very one dimensional still, it's the most frustrating thing watching the same kick to the same part of the ground over and over.

We need to see how our best go against Brisbane round 1 before I lose my schnitzel over this team though. If that game looks anything like this one, you bet the toys go out of the cot.

Emmet, Freddy, Wagner & Walker (& Chappy)will make a huge difference to our speed, hit ups, forward & defensive pressure & ball use.

Amiss & Jackson change the forward structure completely & Treacy can play his bash & crash protective role. Walter’s & Switta don’t have to play as the hit up forwards.

Bradshaw & Serong got their hands on ball a fair bit & looked rusty, that comes from playing a good team after instras & WC. They’ll be much sharper for the run.

Port are a top 2 team who played with a full squad, our structure will be completely different come round 1.

More miles in the legs, learnings to be had from a very good team. I’m not mentioning if we got through injury free.

It’s fun reading the overreactions on here though.

I agree with the sentiment that it is only pre season… but it’s hard to watch that and be very optimistic.

The only thing that helps is remembering that we did them by 5 goals last year and look how the rest of the season turned out..

+

Young showed exactly why he's a midfielder now
Fyfe looked pretty good again
Pearce has had an excellent pre season and it shouldn't go unnoticed
McDonald wasn't too bad considering the amount of entries and minimal midfield pressure
Voss shows a little bit, good free hit
Switta and Walters, whilst quiet, showed they can still be dangerous

Obviously a lot of players missing, but it looks like nothing has changed with the general method. Some will say it is just a pre season game, but you still want to see something with intent, creativity, run, ball movement, etc.

I am almost certain we are going to see the same useless long kick ins against Brisbane, and half of them will get marked by Brisbane and the other half get spoiled 20m back towards our goal.

I doubt the bolded because like our ****ness, their awesomeness can't be confirmed from this game.
