I didn’t watch any of the VFL part so any insight into how he went in that would be appreciated
Played at half back, took some nice intercept marks, had one massive tackle where he stopped a Box Hill player running towards him at speed.

Clark and Knevitt not getting a run is a tad disappointing.

But I understand as they didn’t look up to it at this stage in the recent match since.

Plus it is so hard to squeeze those guys in to the midfield even in practise game - in particular when they are probably wanted to try a few things with the core group (holmes, parf, bruhn, atkins etc) - just not the rotation spots?

i am confident both will smash it out in VFL

Some brief observations from the open training yesterday...

As you would expect, the group did very little of note. Had a run-around, ran a couple of 'touch' drills, some elementary (yet sharp) lane work, and then all sorts of low intensity goal-kicking practice. Would have barely raised a sweat and there was no contact.

Basically it was just the players selected for the game against the Lions, minus the emergencies. Mena was only running laps in a training T-shirt, and Jack Bowes was there (but not training at all) in a T-shirt as well.

Was great to see SOS out there running around, and also Cooper Whyte. Admittedly the drills were all over short distance, but Whyte is a very neat user by foot and looks very comfortable with the ball in hand. When it came to the goal-kicking, Tyson was hitting them from everywhere and most others were as hit and miss as we've come to expect. Parf nailed a beauty from the right-hand pocket and then missed a much easier kick a minute or so later. Brad Close jagged a quality snap off his left as well, showing that his bag of tricks is continuing to grow.

Both the coach and then all the players were very generous with the fans during and after training. Chris Scott rolled up and chatted to us over the fence as training kicked off, and then all the players took time to sign jerseys etc. for stacks of the supporters afterwards. When Jack Bowes was signing my son's jersey, I asked him if he was expecting to still be right to go for Round 1. He said 'that's the plan', but didn't sound overly confident about it. He seemed to be walking freely, though, and certainly wasn't wearing any protection on his leg.

Kudos to the club as well for bringing the premiership cup to Queensland. We hung around afterwards and got a photo of three generations of our family with the trophy. Given my Dad is now in his eighties, that may well end up being a pretty special shot.

Anyway, good to see the boys up close and you can certainly feel a positive energy around the group. A very exciting (and interesting) year awaits...

I like the start time. This means I can watch the Cricket until then.

Does anyone know why Jack Bowes didn't get picked? I thought he would have been a lock for a game like this.

Minor calf niggle.

I agree on bowes and bruhn.
Zuthrie is a funny one-i struggle to see him missing the 23 (wow has he improved) but bews plays a specific structural role on small fwds that im not sure we have a like for like role replacement for him
Bews is a tough one to replace- how many accountable small defenders are there who also break lines by foot? Its a unique skillsrt

Might be the forward line we have to go with in round 1 so interested to see how they go
I still hope Jez will be right to go. But it's certainly not going to be greatly dissimilar, whatever happens. So I agree that we would want to be seeing some signs of decent cohesion to have hope that we can kick a winning score against the Pies.

Hearing a couple more late outs. Senior players.

I assume menegola might be one given goyoucatters comment on training yesterday?

So just last week, did Bruhn give Newcombe and Worpel a touch up ? Because those two are going okay against the Pies today.

He was playing out the backline. Didn't seem like he was actually on the park much at all. Saw more of him getting a leg rubbed down than using said leg to kick the footy. When he did get involved he just seemed to have more time than others and made good decisions. Looks physically ready to go.

My hot take is that they were managing his minutes. Might have been unsure about his return from long term injury. I take it that given he's in the afl practice match now he's pulled up well and ready for a better test

on KROCK -

Nigel Lappin

Henry good surgery reuslt so far but it will be a while but never heard a surgeon say it went badly.

2E, Isaac etc - would paly 50 games a year if they could be we manage them so a few nor there tonight is just tailering to each players load.

SDK up forward - was just a bit of development last week but he'll be back this week -

Sav - reading the play still developing - being led to the ball is a bit better for him - as a KPF he didnt want to get i their way
Played as a soccer goalie so defender suits him a bit better and his earleir development - and he feels more comfortable there so he'll keep doing that for now.

Game will evolve this year too - and with whom we brought in flexibility is key. Jack Henry was one they were gonna shuffle around. There will be more.

Cooper Whyte - didnt pay much last year but did good last week so gets a run this week. WE needed an extra defender so hes up tongiht.

GO Catters
