Harry Barnett is noticeably bigger had a chat he doesn't know if he will play CHB or ruck but feels a lot more confident with extra size he has put on said his running had improved a lot
Mini was giving it a lot to Liam Ryan last in running and in match Sim wasn't moving enough and told him of
But in the drills kicking to forwards he was the best by a long way
Mini favourite seems to be Wes Walley was constantly praising him
Do we need a genuine ruck if none of the options are that good?

Surely we can get away with Barnett CHB/ruck and JWilliams CHF/ruck. Opens up so many more options rather than trying to play an under par full time ruck.

Sub-contract work so can choose my own hours, although I do have a morning commitment that means 9.30 is the earliest I can get there. So it’s problematic for me when they start early

Tbh, they haven’t done a lot of work in their line groups but when they have Barnett has usually been with the backs
Jeebus, I gotta attend training watch more because I've been struggling to find a job since I keep getting rejected. It's like no matter how much runs I score or wickets I take in Shield, I will never make the Australian cricket team.

Good. Ryan hasn't had a quality AFL season since 2021.

Get up him Mcqualter.
Get him up or get him out. He's probably getting more money than some of the young guys who are really doing the hard yards. Doesn't set a good example for them. He's been carried for at least 3 yrs.
Get on the fast bus or get out.

You would think after he tried to get out to the Queensland teams and they both told him thanks but no thanks it might have sharpened him up a bit

Waited years and Years for an electrifying small forward. Ended with Rioli and him. Won a flag, Willie smoked pot and then ****ed off. Ryan had a couple good years and then never reached those heights again. An absolute pitty cause bloke is super talented too

Ryan wasn’t really ever a small forward though. My Willie on the other hand. Very small

The trick is to lie on your CV son.

60% of the time, it works everytime :tophat:

I know we’re unlikely to go down this path but I’d love to see Clancy Dennis given the train on spot in a head to head shootout with Brock. Great kid, smart footballer with a big tank and is up to 195cm.
I said that from straight after the draft. If he's anywhere near brock we should take Dennis.
Untapped potential rather than brock who has been in the system a while and hasn't shown much

Doesn't matter how many hard yards you do if you couldn't get a kick in a stampede. It's why Ryan is still on the list and some of the hard yarders aren't.

Agreed. A 12 month rookie spot would be perfect with very little downside as far as I can see. Have a crack at Zach Reid* or another young KPD at the end of the year but hopefully we see enough with Clancy to keep him on regardless. He’s recovered well from his foot injury and is ready to go.

Agree that we should have a look at Clancy Dennis for a train on spot. Tom Bell who we were linked to predraft is another we should/might consider

That said, I get the feeling we’re looking for a KPD with a more mature body since there’s a good chance they’ll need to play this season, especially if Edwards foot injury is worse than they’ve let on

So maybe Ethan Phillips or DGB, if Carlton don’t offer him a contract

Got here just after 9.30 and they were well into training by the time I arrived. Don’t know what time they started obviously

Pretty much all the rehab/deload guys weren’t out there - only Cole, Davis and Johnston running laps. The rest either didn’t train or had already finished

By my count there were 24 listed players still involved meaning 16 I didn’t see

- Sheed, Ginbey, Harley, Brockman, Allen, Long, Graham, Chesser, Hough, Petruccelle, Barnett, BWilliams, Champion, Jamieson, Edwards and Hutchinson

A few Beagles players (Lucassen was the only one I recognised, maybe Sparks as well) plus Walley and I think Banfield. Walley looks and moves a lot like Dewar

Yeo, Owies and Dewar left sometime before the contested work

They did some uncontested ball movement work from halfback for about 15-20 minutes followed by some full field contested work for about the same amount of time

About 10.20 they stated wrapping things up and they’re all drifting off now as I’m typing this. At a guess I’d say I’ve missed at least half of the session

Notable -
• Waterman is starting to hit his strides and presented well up forward in the match sim
• Hewett moving through the midfield well
• Duggan is leading pretty well and looks to be a full time mid in drills
• Cripps still helps set a training standard
• Baker is in the thick of everything and works his arse off to provide an option coming out of defence
• McGovern was in the contested drill so whatever issue there was with his ribs must’ve been minor
• Archer took one really nice pack mark and presented well
• Maric is on a steep learning curve down back but is getting plenty of help from the coaches
• Gross and Allan were both very good in the match sim work. An early debut for Allan looms
• Hall provided some good run also and is looking very fit
• Nice to see Bazzo do the contested match sim
• Rawlinson had a good session and isn’t looking out of place
• Didn’t mind some of Burgiel’s work in the match sim - still lacks conditioning though
• Brock had his hands full with Reid
• Kelly got a full session in as well
• Shanahan with a great run down tackle at one point to cause a turnover

Coaches were very vocal with their instructions on what they wanted players to do - gaining territory as fast as possible is the primary focus

Archer and JWill the last to leave the track as they stayed at to practice some set shot goal kicking
Are we worried about how many aren't in main training? Feels like we had less injuries this time last year.

what's the rules on rookie spot for Dennis?
If WC have a list spot available can they pick anyone who wasn't drafted?

Definitely a bit of a concern and my memory is our availability was better this time last year, although I do recall a bit of panic around late Jan/early Feb on the length of our injury list. A lot of that was the club being conservative and it wasn’t as bad as feared

For now, I’m sticking to that happening again- keeping players out with small issues before they develop into big ones.

It’ll be a watch when they come back after the break
