Good to get down to training again. Solid session this morning - plenty of ball movement focused drills with regular sets of running to break it up. A little bit of contested work in the middle but mostly flowing drills practicing kicking and ball movement. The players came out just after 9:30 and began slowly trickling inside after 11, with everyone finished up by 11:45.

I counted roughly 26 on track with the following players unsighted: Ryan, Sheed, Hunt, Yeo, Kelly, Gov, Petch, Flynn, Cole, BWilliams, Edwards, Graham. Some more notes:
  • Owies and Baker made their first appearances on the track. Both looked fine
  • Burgiel trained
  • Of those 26, Hutchinson and Jamieson did the least. To start they walked laps for about 15 mins, before heading to the grandstand to do some work on the stairs. Didn’t spot them anymore after around 10:20
  • Got a close look at him and it looks to me like Hutchinson has added some size over the off season
  • Harley and Long warmed up with the main group but otherwise completed a separate training session with a trainer - Reid obviously with his concussion, and I’d imagine Long is in the final stages of his recovery from his PCL surgery. They completed run throughs, agility work and some kicking and finished up around 11.
  • Just on Harley - he does look a touch heavy, but to me it looks like it’s more extra muscle rather than him eating too many pies. He’s moving alright, although he dropped behind Long after a while with the running. I don’t think it’s much cause for concern as (a) Long is a very good runner and (b) he has plenty of time (4 months) to shed any extra kilos before the start of the season.
  • And on Long - looks in good nick, seems to have added a little bit of size. Skills a bit rusty today but can probably be forgiven for that given the injury he’s coming back from.
  • Brockman did the first hour with the main group before splitting off with a trainer and doing run throughs, agility work and tackling. Finished up around 11:15. He looks in good shape to me, if I were to guess he’s probably in the final stages of his recovery from the syndesmosis injury he had last season, rather than any issues with his fitness.
  • Archer Reid seemed to sit out a couple of the drills but otherwise trained fully and looks okay
  • Spotted some of the new coaches out there - Bello, Hurn and interestingly, Harry Taylor and Daisy Pearce were out there too wearing the coaches uniform.
  • Liked what I saw from Hewett today - often saw him in the front half of the running groups, kicking looked sharp and was moving well.
  • Also liking the look of Bazzo - looks an imposing size now, moving well and didn’t see him miss a kick all day
  • Cripps continues to set the standard on the track - looks in really good nick and was regularly at the front of the running group
  • As mentioned the group did sets of running regularly throughout the session, and you can often take a fair bit from the order they run in. At the front of the pack there was usually Ginbey, Dewar and Cripps, with Waterman, Duggan, Hall, Johnston and Hewett in that next group. Jack Williams was among the fastest of the taller players.
  • Allen was the last on the track and finished with 10-15 minutes of set shot goal kicking practice
  • They trained on Oval 2 today which made it much easier to watch - Oval 1 is having some work done on the turf.

Seriously, what even is this Jamieson kent's problem? I can't keep up with his injuries.

Is this a new injury or the same one he had that restricted him to 3 WAFL games this year?

What LittleFires said

Want to reiterate what he said about Dewar though- was surprised to see him not far behind Ginbey when they were running their intermittent 300-400m laps during the session. His skills also looked pretty sharp

Hewett is giving cause for optimism the way he’s moving and looks leaner than I’ve seen him previously. Time will tell how he copes when training loads inevitably ramp up

Owies is a nuggety little ****er

No issues with Brockman - he was running laps at good pace around the oval at the end of the session

Now, Burgiel. When they were doing the 300m runs, he was usually at the back of the group with the big blokes. Not a good look, especially for a bloke who’s training to keep his career alive he seems to lack intensity.

Livingstone was also doing some 1 on 1 fitness work with a trainer to finish the session which looked to be building his fitness base

He had knee and ankle surgery late in the season so he’d be recovering from that

, emphasis on accurate pin-point passing....

Argh yes I was wondering when the Club would start addressing this issue.

Seems to have been a skill that’s been completely ignored the past four seasons.

It's a boy!

Seriously, pretty poor from the social media team. Not hard to look at that photo and say, "yeah that's not very flattering, let's use another one"

Good to see the 3 amigos on the field (sure to cause some angst and begrudging comments for awhile yet :winkv1:) ...
Also great training report from Littlefires.
Hewett, Long, Bazzo, Hall, Hutch, Dewar, Cripps, all sound solid.(so far)
Hall looks the goods, hope he can step up this season.
