Agreed. I mentioned a few posts earlier that long term I wonder if JWilliams and AReid can develop their craft enough to both play ruck/fwd in the same team which would free up a spot by not having a specialist ruck.
I can see it in the short term but long term both have the talent ability to be very decent KPP and having them ruck might be detrimental to their development.

Shueys comments regarding reid being able to understand and picks up things so quickly is actually encouraging. Perhaps it’s worth taking the punt by putting him back next season

Still feels to me we're not yet hitting our straps or getting hard into it before the Xmas break.

Bit disappointing, always thought it gradually stepped up by mid december so everyone gets a decent fitness base before the players go on break for a couple weeks.

Too many part timers on the injury front either skipping sessions completely, or on "modified programs".

Oh wells.

Haven’t paid too much attention to the draft but watching Jobe’s highlights it feels like he’d be such a waste if he wasn’t a forward. Seems like such an Eagles type forward with his smarts/running patterns as a lead up forward. Also looks awesome flying for marks too.
I hear you mate. Just with the plethora of forwards, I think he would make an awesome Gov replacement too. (also worth his weight in Gold)

Jobe does have some strong similarities to Nick Riewoldt in the vids though.
we win either way really.

I'd like to keep Archer Reid forward and get Lecras or similar to teach him goal kicking fundamentals and Kennedy forward craft.

I think Jobe Shanahan ends up the Gov heir apparent.... He's got stickier hands than Dark Sharks, front row of a Dua Lipa concert!
I know it's a long way down from head to foot, but it looks a bit like he doesn't get his head over the ball when he kicks for goal, and drops it onto his foot with two hands instead of guiding it with one. His field kicking looks better. Get Lecca in.

Seems a step too far for me. Big step up from pinch hitting to taking half the ruck load. Ideally I think we won't want more than around 20-30% ruck contests for either of them.

I said long term so I’m talking in 5 years+, plenty of time to observe how they develop and see if it’s feasible. Archer shouldn’t be in the centre square at all at AFL level for at least the next 2-3 years minimum.

TBF Gov did train as a fwd/ruck for his first few years, didn't seem to hinder his development as a backman

I think we should back in the fitness staff, who proved last year they can successfully build players to be primed for the start of the season proper.

Just because a player isn't completing full sessions out on the track, doesn't mean they aren't working super hard behind closed doors. We need 40 blokes ready to go with a good base for mid-march, not mid-December.

"Draftee Bo Allan impressed at one stage when he stormed through the middle of the drill, clearing a path for himself before finding All-Australian forward Jake Waterman inside 50 with a penetrating kick..."

Sounds promising.
Yeah but the kick wasn't elite though.
