He'll be on the outer unless he can start using his frame, stop hearing footsteps and put his head over the footy a bit more.
I distinctively remember Chesser going back with the flight a couple of times to take a mark or provide an aerial contest in defence this season.

I don't think he lacks hardness, perhaps a bit hesitant to go in for a hard ball due to injury, but when he needs to go he goes.

Seems an odd take for someone who's clearly been told to play an outside role.

I've watched him a lot, he's not soft at all and runs hard all day. He struggles with reading the play and being in the right spot at the right time to provide an outlet or option. It's very noticeable watching from the wing and upper tiers.

Id like to think it’s gimp wing related.

It’s such a shocking position tbh

I would like Optus stadium to officially rename one of the wings Gimp Wing.

Can just see Don Pyke at the season launch:
“We had the Mainwaring wing at Subi and now in [emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji6] we’d like to introduce the Gimp Wing, the new name for the outer wing at Optus Stadium.”

That's where I watch the footy from and that is exactly what I see as well.

Can that be “fixed” with a different game plan ie a chaotic one? Or if it’s still an issue with current age, just better to write it off as a loss and move on?

He’s 21 and played 30 games. Let’s see where he’s at in a few years time before just writing him off and moving on.

Yeah he needs to improve his game but there’s time on his side. He’s been playing in a rubbish side on the wing where the ball hasn’t got to him just as much as him not finding the ball.

There’s still other players we can move off the list before needing to put a line through Chesser’s name.

Fair call. There’s also quite a few top draft picks from 2020 that are not turning out, probably because of the lack of a top age year for them. We need to be patient and find a role for him.

I still remember the demolition derby of 2023, he played 3 quarters with a torn ligament in his knee because we had no one else that could stand. He does the right thing by the team…those guys must be persisted with, at least for a while.

True, considering we've won 10 games in three years not even the second coming Harley Reid's been enough to wake this team up out of a stupor...yet. Let's see what adding three experienced bodies and a couple more draft picks does.

Poor guy whenever he gets dropped to the WAFL Eagles..that's a fate worse than hell.

But can he play well in the wafl? I know it's not an ideal environment but surely a highly rated young player should be able to play well there?

Playing well as an individual is hard when your getting thrashed.
No doubt but I think playing well at wafl level should be a prerequisite for getting a game in the seniors.
Hopefully with a bit more depth guys like chesser aren't getting promoted without earning it

Plenty of time yet to learn. What he does have on his side is athletic capability, work ethic and a willingness to put his body on the line.

A redefined role with simplified instructions related to his offensive output rather than defensive positioning (i.e when the ball is here, you need to be at this spot to link up) will help to improve his impact off the ball.

not to mention he spent the bulk of those 30 games in the dreaded wing role

when he played in the center at WAFL level he actually looked decent
