Waterman was more dominant when he was playing closer to goals and not competing with Allen earlier in the season.

Allen takes the reins from McGovern at CHB, snake moves to FF and Archer CHF. Williams second ruck rotating through forward pocket or bench.

Just don’t ask me to fit shanahan in too!

Allen needs to find a different approach to marking the ball or rather landing if not he will just get injured again.

I think that approach could work….im coming around to moving Oscar down back, as it could protect his body to a certain extent, like comben from nm, and the reasons above.

My take aways from training today-
Fairly light session, skills weren't great due to some wind and general low intensity from the group.

Flynn injury had him pointing to his heel/ Achilles with trainer's fwiw.
Nice to see drills with overlap runners from behind, charging upfield in numbers.
Hutchy running well, super athlete and in most drills now after modified loads pre Xmas.

Kept a good eye on Brock and who I assume is Van Es in #41. Both training with the backs.
Brock still to fill out but a huge frame and neat left foot.
Van Es I must say was totally underwhelming. From early warm up, stationary kicking with BoA, he'd make Bo run 5-10m nearly every kick over a 30m pass. Not to get overly critical.... but...he went on to drop a few marks and kicking did not improve. Even lazily kicking ball back to a coach setting up kicks for 3rd up marking drills, missed kick by a mile, making coach run back 20m to pick ball up and slow down drill. No intensity, little chat- I was actually amazed that this is a guy given a chance to fight for a list spot.
Brock might not be the guy but Van Es not in the ballpark from my small training sample size..

Whopper still with arm guard but in all drills, mainly unimpeded.
Good intensity from the usual suspects- Ginbey, Baker, the Spartan, Fridge, Clay, JHunt. Harley ran well.

BoA not out of place. Definitely kicks better long, can miss short spot up kicks.

Barnett, Maric, Baker training w backs as mentioned.

More bad news for Flynn I see. Hope his ankle injury is not too serious.

apologies, I cant open this.

Yep, even before the break when he was with the rehab crew it struck me how fit he looked and seemed.

I rate Archer highly but I think it’ll be hard to displace Jilliams unless he really starts being a non event.
JW has the runs on the board and provides a very good ruck/fwd option and probably plays 2nd ruck and forward.
Archer is very talented but like Shanahan to get a gig will have to displace someone else and most likely fill a void in KDEF to get a spot to start.
Still another good problem to have with our young KP players.

It's not impossible that JWill kicks 30ish goals this year. As a 2nd Ruck you'd take that. Not convinced Archer can match him in the ruck and I would hate for him to try tbh. Feel like Arch is competing with Oscar and Waterman, because we dont have a ruch that can solo a whole game. That isn't a competition hes going to win I don't think, both can and have kicked 53 goals in a season. I can't see Arch playing if those 3 are healthy.

4 Talls forward? Doubt it, not with how big the rest of the team is too. Unless Oscar or Archer goes back i don't really see how Archer plays with a fit team. He sure does put pressure on those key forwards to perform though right? That's so exciting.

Jake Waterman and Oscar Allen won’t BOTH play 23 games. Archer Reid will be a very capable replacement for whenever either of those two are unavailable

In the meantime he can play as our primary forward target in the WAFL to develop his craft

Last year Waterman played 20 out of 23 games and Oscar played 11 out of 23 games. As far as I can see none of the games they missed overlapped meaning only one of them was playing in 14 games for the year. With Darling gone Archer is clearly next in line, he’ll get opportunities to play this year as a KPF, going to be great to see him pull on the jumper at AFL level.

Edit: just saw you post Keys , completely agree.

100% agree, Archer is in his second year and having a fantastic pre-season, damn good problem to have but no way 4 talls in the forward line.
If forward line is fit he will need to compete with others for a spot in KDEF, both Archer and Barnett might be fighting for the same spot if Edwards isn't fit or fight for that position if he is?
Personally I see both Barnett and Archer as exciting KDEF options that improve this year and maybe pushing Edwards out of the side, great news, Edwards is a solid option when fit but hasn't proven he can stay fit and nail down that FB position.
Barnett looked cooked/injured last year and only played a few games where he looked to have AFL talent. A solid pre-season and he looks like he is grabbing a new position with both hands.
I am very excited by what our 23 under 22yo players can bring to the next team, cant wait for the season to start!

JW would be in front of Archer for a KPF spot or depending on fitness of rucks he could play 2nd ruck allowing Archer to be next up, but he definitely can play no 1 KPF in WAFL.

If JWill kicks 30 we are going deep into September. Rota-roota deep
