I think people have taken this post the wrong way. I found it frustrating when I heard the club was already dictating terms with regards to list management before the new coach could have his own plan and vision for the years to come. It would compromise him. Ancient Tiger summed it up well when he said it was the principle that was objectionable. Had this involved any other player on the list that is near retirement, most people would have howled, but the fact it is Richo meant that many conflicting opinions have been raised.
For Astro Boy, I have some more information for you. Richo went in the other day and had knee surgery. The surgery found minor medial ligament damage and that was "tidied" up. Nothing serious was found. Nothing more than the man has almost every time he has surgery to fix his knee at the end of most seasons. The whole thing was a smoke screen to prevent supporter backlash to the fact he re-injured his hamstring almost immediately after running on to the field for Coburg. The medical staff panicked a little as they did not again want to be seen as being dictated by Richo as to when he was ready to play. They decided to rest him for the year and put it under the "knee trouble" banner.
I also know that players like Foley had been made to play all year with injuries (ankle) till it finally gave way. I recall at the time they called it a calf or knee strain but it was always his ankle. Guys like Pattison have never has a proper preseason. The medical staff have rarely taken the best option with their injuries. This guy should have had an operation at the start of the year but instead has been given local injections. This has never let him play/train to his full ability and the guy has lost all confidence. He now may be delisted.
There are many other facts that I do know but don't say because I've been sworn to secrecy. Some are not that good.
I apologize if this post was not verifiably accurate. My sources were not 100% sure themselves. I just thought it was an interesting discussion point and from the number of views/replies it has been.....
